Government functions

Village tab in the kin window that lists people in your village. Other than having someone in your kin list or them being on screen there isn't a way to exile someone in your village who has been say, hacked, or turncoat or w/e and needs to be kicked.

Edit: Note, this si also a way for larger villagers to discover and meet new members without freaking out because they weren't informed.

Village noteboard of some kind @ the idol or such. YEs, I can make a basket and stash notes in it for villagers to read. but there is no way to know who has read your messages,or what 's new etc. without reading them all every time you log in. NOw I don't suggest that this shouldn't consume resources like any other mail system but it should be given an intuitive interface to manage distrobution of village instructions. It could also include tiers of privacy. Villagers only, target only, or fully publicly viewable. This would allow you to leave public announcements for visitors to read should you allow them (as say, brodgar does).

Intergovernment discussion board, possibly at RoB or like server chat. Eassentially this functions as a message board for lawspeakers and chieftens to make diplomatic announcements and public relations between important people about important matters that need not be public (Significantly less important and meaningful at the current stage of game development/population than the other two suggestions, and may be a forum board function).

I had a few more last night but I'm brain farting. So when i remember them I'll post/bump the thread.

I'm well aware of the shortcomings, thank you. :) They are planned for fixing sooner or later. The main problem is, of course, that UI work is involved. Blech.

That's understandable. Smack TheTrav around and maybe he'll write the client side for you. =) lol

I agree regarding village member lists, but why are you so keen to have some kind of in-game message board when we have perfectly workable online forums?

That's an excellent way to do it. Villages having private forums.

I remember what the other thing was. We were discussing currency. For a system of coins to become established it would need to be practical for regular players (people without access to a shit ton of metal) to have access to a finery forge. Yet at the same time it becomes obvious that once one is built it is only a matter of time before someone demolishes it. If newbie villages like brodgar could give usage access to a finery forge to non village members without risking its destruction then player created and demanded currency would become possible.

For this purpose and a few others it occurred to us that village leader should be able to set usage permissions on constructs (including huts so that it would not decay). The other usage involved protected trading highways through mordor.

I just started on replacing the chat widget this morning actually. Sadly though, while I don't hate UI code like Loftar does, my pacing is quite a bit slower than his because I keep getting distracted by other things (including, playing H&H).

Also I'm not sure loftar will like my solution (separate jframes using pre-built swing widgets)

On a more serious note, if you do want Loftar I'm more than happy for you to publish a bunch of message/response pairings I could use to query the server for info about who is in the village or any other widget you want and build an interface off that.

It probably won't be in the H&H theme though, I just do standard swing widgets with no/minimal skinning. I'd also request you make the messages more generic "here's some info about the game world" rather than "draw a 4 unit wide box at this spot in this color"

Only just noticed that one. Yes, as soon as we can arrange it City of Brodgar will have a large supply of both coins and metal bars and will happily convert your metal bars to 98 coins or your 101 coins into a metal bar for you with a zero wait.

That's very kind, and minimally profitable of you TheTrav

For coinage to have practical value that practical value must be reasonably obtainable. Hence why it is important for a government to back it's artificial currency or it becomes worthless.

I personally, outside of my role as chieftan will sell cow chorizos of varying quality (all above 10, in some cases mid 20's) to anyone who wants them at a cost of 5 copper coins each.

I will sell silk filaments for 10 copper each, threads for 80 copper and whole cloths for spastic high prices or something I'm in demand of.

I'll make you mid level leather gear (quality 30-40) for a negotiable amount of coins.

If you have coins, and want some gear, I will do my best to help you rid yourself of those coins.

The City Of Brodgar also plans on paying people in copper coins for cloth and fiber in the near future.

Is that enough backing for you?
