Have Reincarnation Refund Skill Values

Postby Jackard » Sun Sep 20, 2009 11:07 pm

Not sure why it doesn't already do this, it would be the intuitive thing seeing as your skills are already refunded. The new crafting skill values only make this seem more natural - what if a player wants to switch from Smithing to Survival?

here I am, saddled with totally useless SVs like stealth and marksmanship again

Because the point of the system is not that you should be allowed to create an entirely new character, but a reincarnation of your old one, hence "reincarnation system".

Yeah, I was wondering about that myself. I really thought that would happen.
Surprise.

But thats the entire meaning of the word reincarnation - giving someone a fresh start. If I wanted to make an "entirely new character", I'd start yet another macro account. Is that what you'd like - for people to become so invested in their current skills, even beyond death, that they need an alt to try something else?

Some part of the self remains constant during rebirth - you keep stats, after all - but why would being a carpenter in a former life have any affect on what you are now?

Alright you two, learn to PM or at least start a new thread. You're both annoying.

Now, back on topic:
If conventional skills are reset- that is, you forget how to swim and how to use and make swords and how to farm and how to get angry- then it's only natural that the pointed skills are also refunded.
Surprise.

My character is full trad but doesn't even have trespassing. This is mainly because someone gave me bad advice when I first started playing and I never thought to ask anyone else.

I like the idea of things remaining the same character after character. Because when you have a lineage of hearthlings, and manage not to come out at a major loss in LP points after so many rebirths, you could have something like a legendary 15th generation shoe cobbler.

Or stealthy bow guy. Whichever.

A lot of folks serious about pvp go trad, be they lawful or otherwise.

trad also has some that dont mind a slower rate and others that are incredibly terrified of losing their character

It's not very traditional if you change everything, is it now?

Letting people completely change their specialization can only discourage interaction between players, as it decreases their need for each-other's skills. So thumbs down from me.

In order to abuse that change, one would need to kill youself and play for annother 32 hours.

Besides, you ALREADY get you skill points back for things like ranging, crafting, and other skills. Why should these leveled skills be different?
Surprise.
