A new form of teleportation

Postby Jfloyd » Thu Sep 24, 2009 3:32 am

Rings- Like the ring of Brodgar, there could be other rings built.
When someone finds it, they can set their ring warp point to that instead, and would have to travel to the RoB to set it to there.
This would allow people to still have the teloportation they wanted, but not everyone would be clusterfucked in one spot.

I'd think that it should be buildable only by villages, and with a rare raw material, such as quarry stone, which was mentioned in another thread.
If a village has this ring, it should remove the village teleport option, which would make it so a village has to decide on allowing others to teleport into their town, but increase in trade, or more saftey. That or a toggle with the lawspeaker should set wether or not new people can use their ring.

Quarry stone shouldn't be so much rare as difficult to acquire, as in, requiring like 3 men or a team of oxen to haul one stone to the surface.

Other than that, Perhaps having a radius of teleportation directly attached to the quality of the material used in construction? For example, the RoB has a fairly large radius, reaching beyond the Lake of Brodgar and into the wilderness a bit. Any rings with radiuses intersecting the RoB's radius of teleportation could link with the RoB. This way, Major cities could still be formed whilst requiring a certain amount of travel.

Of course, that's just me. And this is your idea. Just trying to add a bit to it.

this is a good idea. you're just overthinking it and adding too many details.

Seconded. Big ass teleportation gateways that take heaps to build would be cool, even though I don't really like in your face magic.

It'd also be cool if they all linked together into some crazy sort of alternate dimension with a maze in it that changes every time a new teleporter is built (possibly causing serious harm to people inside a section that changes) :P

That sir, is in your face magic :P I could imagine the walls Jorb would draw, with moving arms inside of them because people were trapped. There would be swords stuck in the wall and full corspes embeded just on the outer layer so everything would be visible. ;D

I was thinking that each supergrid should have one RoB, that works like a single "Ring of Brodgar" spawn point.

We have just formulated an entirely different implementation of teleportation. It's a bit too early to give any details, but after the next dev session we'll hopefully have formulated it better.
