Displaying the quality of built objects

Postby roundedge » Fri Sep 25, 2009 10:20 am

I have a butter churn, and, from what I understand, its quality should be the average of the quality of the materials I've used. However I am unable to get better than quality 9 butter out of it, even though I'm using quality 10 milk and the churn is made of quality 10 wood. Maybe there's a skill factor involved, I'm not a carpenter; however this is not what bothers me.

What bothers me is that I can not tell the quality of my butter churn, and so I can not discern the source of the problem. Nor can I safely barter for a better butter churn, because all I have is the word of the person who constructed it.

It would be nice if the game had a feature which allowed the player to see the quality of constructions in addition to the current ability to see the quality of crafted items.

tldr; I can't tell what the quality of my butter churn is.

can be easily implemented. for example, when clicking with the repair button, show "this quality X churn does not need to be fixed" or "you need X X to repair this quality X churn"

Yeah, this is on pretty much everyone's wishlist.

OP, in your case I suspect your problem is low cooking skill dragging the quality of your butter down. Raise it a few points and your butter quality should go up.

New skill 'Appraise'

Postby Chakravanti » Mon Dec 07, 2009 4:28 am

Now I know being able to check built item Ql's is redundant but it hasn't been suggest to be done this way.

It could be a skill that works like carving a runestone, it changes the cursor and you click on a built object and a timer goes off and the Ql of the item is appraised giving you a window revealing the Quality. THis would be easier to implement and more practical a function than the previously suggested 'rollover mechanics' because it would fit in with the current UI mechanics theme.

Every time something isn't ingame, people suggest annoying interface suggestions to add it.
What is wrong with the simple roll over mechanics and other things people have suggested? Why does everything have to be annoying to use? Or complex? Or tedious? Why can't something just be simple and be left at that.

well, it would be nice to have some way to determine quality of built objects. right now you can determine quality by using it, which is far more of a pain in the ass than any ideas i've heard about it.
