Thematic Variations

Postby Yolan » Sat Sep 26, 2009 12:43 pm

While a lot of work remains to be done, being alpha and all, I really do like this game. But I was thinking, wouldn't it be cool to have other variations in regards to theme in the future? By this I mean, kind of like spin-off's that make use of a lot of the art-work and code of the original, but differ in regards to setting/lore. This is more of a musing than a serious suggestion.

Personally, I would give my right arm for a sengokujidai H&H (warring states period Japan). Rather than an infinitely expandable map, I would say make a very large map of the archipelago. Making that perfect samurai sword would be the dream of a lot of players I'm sure.

Add races (or nations to be PC), with each having their own special skills and their own RoB-style buildings, which only work for them (so they stay put in their own native land). Then we can have all the cliché RPG cultures and worlds (tvtropes link warning) in regions on the same map.

I'm in favor of different continents existing, reachable only by boats, which offer unique resources that enable these variations. So you travel across the ocean and find some mysterious new crop (we'll call it "Rice") and some Japan-inspired trees which are prerequisite types of wood to create Japan-looking log cabins.

Seems most fitting for when the main game has more population, but it could be one of the big projects to create boats capable of that kind of travel. I dunno, A Tale in the Desert's huge collaborative community projects always seemed impressive to me and completely befitting of these types of MMOs.

As the game gets further along, it seems like "Research" should become a concept necessary for the development of the higher tech items (I'd imagine a number of pre-existing items might get disallowed, and shoved back as things only available after you've researched them.) Maybe research is a special building players research in. Maybe it's merely a result of becoming inordinately skilled at a given thing. Or a combination.

I've thought a lot about it. Let's finish this game first, though.

Hehe.

Here's another one: 'Industria'. Basically, H&H, but with flavours of the 19th century industrial revolution. Laying down railways and seeing those steam trains chug along, that would be something. Captains of industry!

Meh, I had an idea a couple of days ago about how awesome it would be to use H&H's Hunger/Stamina/HP system and it's Construction system in a zombie survival game :ugeek: . The player would start in a safe zone, and would be forced to go out in groups so that they didn't get eaten alive...

Wow, I really AM the epitome of geekyness.

Man, if the interface/server lag was fixed and the game was more or less polished, this could be an awesome zombie survival game. You would spawn somewhere around but not next to a random player in a huge ruined city map... It would be like I am Legend, complete with the field in between skyscrapers awesomeness!
