Merchant: gets only half as much TW, can establish shops for offline trading, can stack coins up to 500 in a single inventory slot.

Hermit:

Has large area radius with exponential falloff, reduces decay of equipment, also debufs all other players (quite a bit) due to his social inequity and poor personal hygiene

Hmm... Let me try that Hermit one again:

Hermit:
Looses all kin and leaves all towns, cannot gain either- perhaps even making you unable to even enter a town. Fast travel is either disabled or decreased significantly. Cha halved, Psi doubled.
Gains a significant boost to LP- perhaps twice or more times as much gained, and finds that animals are less aggressive.

Basically, if you want to go out into the wilderness and do everything yourself, you can, but the downside is you HAVE to do everything yourself. Even trading would require hiking all the way back to civilization. Like any guru or yogi, you find that bears1 and other wildlife respect you as an ascetic, only attacking when you approach them, and thus while hunting them is no easier, you usually can walk through level X territory with somewhat less fear. Of course, this protection won't extend to others.

1: Yes, yogis and bears. You are very clever, ha ha ha.
Surprise.

I deserve to roleplay a mage. We definitly need some magic hearthlings with a bunch of drawbacks, that can barbecue mighty warriors.
