IG Tutorial

Postby IamNoja » Wed Nov 02, 2011 7:32 pm

there should really be an in game tutorial for new players like me. i have been playing the game for about 4 days and i dont even have a decent shelter or anything for a matter of fact...all im saying is there should be a tutorial for the newbies to help get them started so there not just thrown into the wild with no knowledge on how to survive in this game...

I Watched a couple of youtube tutorials and visit the Wiki Often and im still having alot of trouble learning how to play..

Can Anyone Help ?

Yes. There should be.

However, HnH isn't really a game in more that it's a concept of various game ideas and technologies. It doesn't, nor will it likely ever have, the polished characteristics and features of a finished game.

That said, there are a few community tutorials across the forums.

In the past your posts seemed to more or less make sense, but since World 6 started I'd swear you were on drugs or something.? Not a game? This is about as close to a feature complete MMog as I've seen and I've been beta testing them since Ultima Online in 1997. You've spouted more hyperbole lately than I've seen in these forums... well, ever.

It's "not a game" in the sense that it's not presented as a standard game. There's no in game tutorial, no help dialogue at all, no death screen, no moderation. Also, unless J&L have a massive change of heart and decided to eventually package HnH up as a true game experience, then they will never take the time to make an in-game tutorial or add help dialogues or explanations of game mechanics. Those are "finishing touches" types of additions and will likely never see the light of day in HnH, which is basically an alpha sandbox tech demo for J&L to test out new game ideas in.

I'm not knocking it by calling it "not a game", simply trying to explain why it doesn't include certain things that marketed games have, like tutorials and explanations.

Cobalt might have fired the wrong ammunition, but he hit the mark. Quit hating. This will never be a complete game. It's just a tech project for J&L, will never have paid developers, and will always suffer from this or that. Yes, there are commercial projects that do worse (design and gameplay), but then with those you can expect something done about people exploiting bugs and other customer service issues.

That "it's not a game" comment, though... sheesh. What a pile of crap. The worlds greatest games have no built in tutorials or help dialogs. The players are expected to figure it out on their own. The kiddies just need to quit holding hands all the way to end game and expecting to always win.

Tetris is a bit different than Haven & Hearth, c'mon now.

As much as I love this game, hardly anything about it is intuitive. It's sorely lacking for some sort of hand holding to better explain the most basic game mechanics. Ctrl+Click to get out of a boat? Seriously? Luckily though the community has some very dedicated members who have filled the void with some very well thought out tutorials on the various aspects of the game on the forums.

And the same is true of chess, poker, bridge, Magic: the Gathering, so on and so forth, bla bla bla, yada yada yada....

Yeah, some of the mechanics and interface are needlessly bad. I've a feeling many of these could be corrected in the interface, though. Some of the mechanics are pretty intuitive, though (assuming the user knows basics about games and computer interfacing). Right click to bring up a menu for an object is extremely common.
