For people who don't like combat?

For people who don't like combat?

For people who would prefer the pacifist approach, can there be an option for players to be immune to combat against other players?
(This would go both ways, so they couldn't attack players OR be attacked by players). Turning this on and off would have to incur some kind of penalty, to stop abuse (Or can only be toggled once per 24 hour session).

I think this would be better for the people who do not want to participate in PvP activities.

Too arbitrary. Raiders would be negated. Etcetera, etcetera. The fear of dying from your fellow man would be removed, and the game would lose a good portion of the fun.

Fun is very subjective.

However, I don't think that you'd be able to convince Jorb or Loftar to go with you on that. You best bet for peace is to either join a strong town that will protect you, or go deep into the wilderness.
Surprise.

Or double-layer your palisades. That always helps. I live pretty close to the RoB with single-layer palisades and haven't been raided yet, however.

While this might, prima facie, seem like a good idea, it loses its charm when you understand how integrated PvP and perma death is with the basic premises of the game. For example: What is to stop me from creating a peaceful player, and then, say, screwing someone over in a trade? You'd obviously be trading in an unclaimed basket or container, so scents wouldn't really work.

Also... I don't know... while opting out might be nice for those who want to play a more harvest moon kind of game.... It's not the game we're building. I want players to be able to do, basically, whatever the fuck they want.

What if what they want is to avoid pvp? :P I see both sides but I can't think of any reasonable way you could prevent pvp without breaking the game.

I would make an army of unassailable alts and use them to wall off my property.

If you want to avoid PVP, you actively work to avoid PVP:
1. Build in no-man's land.
2. Build walls.
3. Avoid contact.

How about if the pacifism/martial slider makes it so that pacifists deal up to 40% less damage, but also take 30% less damage, exclusively in PvP?
Surprise.
