Happiness and its effects

Postby LegendaryPancake » Tue Sep 29, 2009 9:48 pm

So currently, there is no use to for happiness in the game. (I don't think) This needs to change. What I think should happen is that if you're happier, your LP gain % increases. After all, if you're happier, you're more likely to enjoy what you're doing at the moment, thus making it easier to learn. And if you're unhappy, your LP gain decreases. If this does end up getting implemented, then I think it should be harder to increase and decrease happiness, but the effects stay longer. At the current, to get happy, you go out and slaughter things, pretty much everything else makes you unhappy. Does this seem like a good idea to anyone else. Please feel free to tear down this idea brick by brick.
I wish to die sleeping, like my grandfather, rather than screaming, like his passengers.

I like it, but I think the effect should be rather small. Anyway, we need other ways to increase happiness besides killing and eating cakes. I propose smoking pot.

Drinking alcohol, too.

Stoned and drunk makes a perfect combination for being happy and learning.

Yeah, I think that good food, or doing things according to your beliefs sliders, like industry folks working with metal and nature folks planting trees, should be major happiness sources.

Now, on the other hand, I feel that a "happiness" rating is pretty stupid for an RPG. The whole point is that you are a Role...Playing...Guy, here. In other words, the game shouldn't be telling me how I feel, I should be telling the game how I feel.

If I happen to be someone who is joyously happy when mining for eight or ten hours a day, then let me RP that!

Then there's the fact that we already have a hunger bar that we have to keep full at all times. The number of times we have to pause to eat is barely acceptable as it is, and having to stop and take a break to have fun INSIDE A GAME would only make it worse.

I like the general idea, but I don't think it can be implemented in a way that can improve gameplay.
Surprise.
