Destroying things before they're built

Postby Denvon » Sat Jun 06, 2009 2:13 am

So I was making a cabin, and on my last trip back (before trees were replantable), I placed the VERY last board.. and click! I hit destroy. Oh dear, I don't think the trees were too happy about that one.

Perhaps some materials that were in the build queue should be dropped on the ground after destroying unbuilt things? Just an idea, might save the clumsy types some trouble.

I'm fairly certain you get the materials back if you haven't already clicked "build", but I'm not certain. I know you CAN take the materials out, if you haven't.

But, yeah, if this isn't true, it should be, and maybe - if you've already started building it - you should get like 1/5 of the materials used back.

((I was typing this in a new thread but I decided to search for a simular thread before posting mine so ill add this here))

So... I just spend an hour or two building a log cabbin, I had everything it needed 100 blocks, and 38 boards... and as I was adding the last 2 boards and I went for the "build button" my hand slipped, and yes... you guessed it. I pressed the "destroy button" Now im pretty levelheaded so I'll get over it, the experience I gained from the ordeal soothes my wounds, but really it would be more ideal if there was a sort of mechanic in place to atleast avoid such 'disasters'

Now what I propose is that assoon as a construction site has received some building materials the user gets prompt with a yes/no Question when he/she presses the destroy button.

Sample question after hitting destroy: "Are you sure?"

I think that's the perfect stopper. Also, if that still doesn't keep you from destruction, make it to where it takes time to destroy things. For example, if a house has half the materials already built in (50/0/50 and 25/0/25), then it would take about half as much time to un-build it as it took to build up to that point.

What do others think?

That's perfect!
I imagine that destroying first drops unbuilt parts of the project (such as boards that have merely been dropped on the site), then dissembles the parts that are built (after you've clicked "build" and things have started moving over to the right side column). These last parts would not be as efficient to reclaim; presumably they've been cut or shaped already.
Surprise.
