Slash and burn

Well, basically a highly flammable liquid, that when lit, will make fire go on tiles that have vegetation (i am not sure whenether hearth is vegetation tile or not) until they hit some tile without vegetation (road, water, plowed ground) afterward the ground would be bit bare(, and have maybe charred trees, maybe not) which would be easy to plow (almost no stamina loss while plowing)
The fire would move "quite" slow still, like 30 second to move from tile to tile, so that people could outrun it... unless somebody uses wind behind it (or vice versa, uses wind to slow it down or go other direction)

I know that this idea has darn alot griefing possiblities, but i had to submit this... it would be darn evil tactic to use if we ever get to such phase of game that we have nations and nation wars

So... on scale from 1 to 10, how good my idea seems? and do you have any other ideas for that kind liquid?

EDIT: well, the one way i could think balancing this would be to make it only affect for certain time after which all flames die... suddenly!
the time would be something about 1 min... and to burn grass you would need alot rare and expensive materials, but the outcome would be very fertible land area of which 1st couple harvests of something would be more productive ( 1 more seed, or grow faster, or give more leftover items, like flax) at certain %(maybe about 30%) so that it wouldnt be TOO overpowered.

Also make it so that the fire could be stopped easily by walking over it, if there are no other things stopping it.... or making claim option of not allowing fire near the claim (magical claim protector fairies?)

well, i know this is bad suggestion, but i still try develope it somehow...

Simply allowing a small chance for campfires to start grass/forest fires would be pretty horribly good.
Surprise.

I'm fine with new offline-griefing mechanics being introduced into the game, with one caveat: that we get new/improved offline-protection mechanics introduced first.

Walls are a great example. They protect your stuff from being griefed while you're offline. They scale (better walls are better at protecting you from offline griefing). They cost time/resources.

A balance between offline-griefing and offline-protection should be struck. For example, if a thief could pay a one-time LP cost to gain wall-climbing as a skill, that one-time cost would render every single wall in the game useless (the time/resources spent making those walls being vastly more costly than any LP cost would be.)

Instead a more balanced thief-vs-wall setup would be:
1. Locked items have a Quality Level. (presumably this is already true.)
2. Lockpicks are a new item. Not cheap, but cheaper than the value of the booty you could snag from the place.
3. Lockpick Quality determines the highest QL lock they can pick.
4. Lockpicks are single-use only (thus incurring repeated costs, unlike wall-climbing.) (although this doesn't say whether or not the thief can "leave the gate open" when he opens it the first time. Leaving the gate open makes sense, but not being able to leave it open means the thief can only carry out what he can carry -- unless he expends the time/resources to make multiple keys.)

I suggest this partially because it'd be kinda cool...and partially because it comes back to the Burning Fields suggestion. The problem being that there's not really a logical "counter" to field-burning (besides walls). Or there is a logical counter (NPC guards that you hire/feed) but it might be overly difficult to implement.

I thought this would be a suggestion for making grassland by cutting down trees and burning them. Fire as a weapon of mass destruction is a game-breaking feature that I'd rather do without.

well, this would account to much griefing, although you could sue it to kill and cook animals in one foul sweep
