Why don't you have a soup?

Postby Jeff » Sun Oct 04, 2009 12:45 am

Well, we have cauldrons. We have also some vegetables (like carrots and onions). So, here's the idea: make soup using a cauldron. Since it is mainly water, it shouldn't give FEPs. It should simply replenish the hunger bar, similiar to the tea with stamina. Of course, a bowl should be needed. You could replenish the bowl by right-clicking on the cauldron (well, there should be an option to empty the cauldron too). Since it is a liquid, you could also take away using a waterflask or a similiar item. Maybe after some hours it could change into cold soup and so reducing its effects.
It should be noted that a noticeable amount of vegetables should be needed. At least 2 onions and 2 carrots for liter of water.

Well, it has other advantages. It is produced in large quantities (because you do an entire cauldron, but you eat only a little portion at a time). It can be eaten quickly (you only need to take it from the cauldron, or "drinking" it from a waterflask) and everyone can take it directly from the cauldron. It can also be useful while exploring, since you could take 2 liters in a waterflask, thus reducing the amount of foods you should take away.

i still think it would be better to have several kinds of soup or stew that give different FEP.

I agree with that. Although there should be a non FEP soup (Bland Broth) for those grinding for a particular attribute.

Knowing J&L, they'll make a STR and CON soup, a CON and INT soup, a soup that gives 1000 FEP for CHA, a PER and CON soup, a CON and CON soup, and a STR and PSI soup (20 pts STR, 1 pt PSI.

I really want something I can eat without filling in FEP I don't want. I'm still working on my first DEX point because I can't find any chantarells. So, all I can eat are apples and the berries.

What'd be really nice is if soup gave "White" FEP that only fills the bar, but never gets rolled... so one chantarell and 20 FEPs worth of soup = 100% DEX point.
In fact, I wouldn't mind bread doing that either. After all, bread goes with everything.
Surprise.

the white FEP isn't a bad idea but i'd still rather see a bunch of soups that give good FEP

I think soups would be a good opportunity to try implementing generic cooking. That is, you make a base of the soup (something with onions) that gives no FEP, and you can add any meat or vegetable to it to give it whatever FEP that ingredient gives.

A bump for this suggestion!
I was thinking about something similiar to this:
Basic meat soup - take meat/bones, wrap them in a gauze, and put everything in a cauldron of hot water.
Basic vegetable soup - just pick various vegetables and put everything in a cauldron of hot water.
The basic soup replenishes only hunger, and can be stored in a waterflask.
With basic soups, you can craft different tipes of soups, adding meat, vegetables, bread ecc. These "upgraded" soups give FEPs, but can be stored only in clay bowls.
