Upgrading Fence

It would be awesome if, instead of taking around 6 weeks to destroy a huge palisade around your village to build a brick wall when you are ready to upgrade, there was an option to upgrade an existing wall to the next level without first having to destroy it, as long as you had the materials for it.

This could be difficult to implement, so my other suggestion is the ability to destroy things more easily on your own claim. That way we could focus more on creation in our area instead of the 5 stamina bars and many minutes it takes to destroy a single palisade in order to make an entrance to a new expansion.

the only problem i see with that is that if you have an unclaimed pallisade, someone else can drop a claim down and destroy it.

Unless Lawspeaker/Chieftain had a toggle for 'Renovation mode'. But I have thoguht this myself quite frequently as I contemplate how best to upgrade to brick once I am privy to the wrought.

Worst-case scenario, you could just build the new wall inside the old one. The old one will eventually rot away... but I agree that there should be a better way to clear those things out. I think that a cheiftain power might be the way to go.
Surprise.

Bumping this rather then making a new thread, with the new world continuing to evolve their will certainly be settlements that want to upgrade their walls and the ability upgrade 'in-place' would keep this from being a huge hassle or security risk. I think it can be integrated directly into the wall selection menu and doesn't need a special function restricted to villages/speakers. A post would have a new option 'upgrade' which creates a quasi construction site requiring the materials for the normal initial post construction cost of the wall type to be upgraded too. The post continues to retain all its defensive value and need not change graphically until the upgrade is done. Once a post has been upgraded adjacent wall sections can be upgraded one by one with only the old wall segments adjacent to upgraded ones being upgradable, old post adjacent to upgraded walls have the normal secondary-post costs. Total upgraded material costs thus end up being identical to having built the higher level wall in the first place, and of course the 'seal' on posts is retained so the upgrade is completely confined to the original wall location to prevent any possible griefing. The only method for adding posts and changing configuration would be to knock out an old wall segment or post, propagate an upgrade to that point to create an open end on the upgraded wall segment thus allowing a new post and segments to be added by normal means.
