I suggest we be allowed to tap maple trees for the sugary sap.
This sap can be a low grade food, or be processed in a cauldron into maple sugar (or syrup).
Tapping a tree would only require an ax, a stick for the spile, and a bucket.
A good tree tap can produce more than 10 liters in a day, but I recommend 2 liters per day as the norm. The sugar content in the trees I tap each year is high, we get about 1 liter of syrup for every 32 liters of sap (we throw away the ice). A mature tree can support two spiles, or taps, with no harm to the tree.
