Marketplaces

This would be a type of claim that village leaders could place in their village. It would be a claim where anything that is set down remembers who put it there and can only be lifted by the person who set the item down (without leaving a scent). Once an item is put down, the person can right click on the object and an option to release the object would be available. Once the object is released, anyone can pick it up. After a certain amount of time, like one in game day, objects can be picked up by anyone. Claimed objects could have a slightly different color, similar to damaged items.

This area should also be accessible to non-village members.

strikes me as similar to the zoning suggestion that someone (Delamore possibly?) made. It'd be great for brodgar to have such an area, so far we've been making use of the way parties work.

This would be far, far more complex than just having a "trade" interface. All I want is to be able to click on someone, select "trade" and then get a 4x4 area that both people can use. If there was an option to "lock" this space until both sides agreed, then all the better, but it's not necessary.

Maybe you can even "give" someone a carried item, which will transfer it to them.
Surprise.

so basically what you want is a smaller version of the wicker basket?

I posted something about it then Delamore posted a different topic about it, doing it slightly differently.

No, not a smaller version of the wicker basket. For one thing, you can't trade in a wicker basket while in a town you don't live in. You can't carry a wicker basket around everywhere you go.

I just think that it's a bit odd that most people in the world exchange items, even raw meat, by dropping it on the ground. Outside of town, because otherwise that would be stealing.

I have to say I quite like this idea.

Although, I'd take away the "after one day, items can be picked up by anyone" part. That'd make it a tad bit hard for shopkeeps to keep their goods.

Perhaps, rather than "releasing", you could set an item as "for sale", and if anyone wanted it they could right click on it to alert you of their trade request. From there, either a trade interface or a simple wicker-basket exchange.

If this does go through, I might set up a shop near TCoB to sell goods from Innsmouth.

Peter makes a fairly compelling argument. Following through on that though, the space should be more than 4 squares... I mean, what if I wanted to trade a board?

Well, I was thinking of an outdoor market. If the space had cabins, then perhaps stuff could last longer there. The time limit was intended to make it possible to clean the place up.
