Better Tools = Quality Buff

Postby Laremere » Sat Oct 17, 2009 4:14 pm

As noted in my farm tools thread ( viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2882 ) lower level tools (and weapons for that matter) are much better than more advanced tools. This is because it's easier to get higher quality in the lower level tools because they have less things bogging their quality down. What I purpose is that better tools (such as the metal saw over the bone saw) should get a quality buff, so they have an advantage over simpler tools. Sure, Blaze's q200 bone saw would still be hard to beat, but for most intensive purposes better tools should lead to better products.

I think the problem is in lack of good clay, not in the way the tools work. If it was possible to make metal as good as bones, the problem would be non-existent.

This would break the math behind the quality system, and should not be done. What Potjeh said.
"The psychological trials of dwellers in the last times will be equal to the physical trials of the martyrs. In order to face these trials we must be living in a different world."

i agree. my stone axe and bone saw are better than any metal ones that can be made right now. kind of backward i guess.

edit: actually, yeah, the clay and fuel are what's holding the metal back... someone find some q100+ clay already

Hm, good point.

Perhaps quality points should be more common?

Not more common, just higher maximums. From what I've seen, maximum clay, soil and water quality that can be generated is 100.

Hm, what about having the max be around 200 (which is the max for animal things I think?), having one that high be rare as gold mines (water, clay, sand, and dirt each.) Then have the lower you go the more common it is, so you shouldn't have to go far to get some descent quality clay.

Jorb told me on IRC that there could in theory be QL 130+ clay, but no one has found it.
