Discussion about archery, and sniping people

Postby overtyped » Sun Jun 16, 2013 2:17 am

This thread is made in the hopes of persuading the devs.
Ever sat afk inside your walls? no you don't because your worried about getting sniped, you spend your time in your house every time your not looking at the computer, or even if your not able to pay 100% attention to it.

It would be a wonderful change if ranged attacks are only capable of reducing your Hard HP to 10%, or like 10 HHP, and knocking you out, but not killing. Which honestly is fine considering one punch would finish them off anyways. You would be able to afk with peace of mind, without having a voice in your head screaming at you saying, get in that house before you go to the bathroom, in case of a sniper.

This change wouldn't hurt game play for archers at all, and your walls will actually mean something, I don't see why this isn't implemented yet.
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

I dream of a day this game has line of sight with a fog of war effect on trees. Just imagine the juking.

Ya, I would love fog of war, because I hate the hide option on enders client. It makes staying under cover impossible. And the stupid purple circle around the guy now kills it even more.

Makes me sad to see how noobs try to hide their precious baskets behind trees.

But to be on topic, the ranged combat needs reworking, everyone stays inside a house/cave to prevent some archer from 360noscoping them.

Add a melee deathblow mechanic: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1226

Jackard wrote:Killing should never happen automatically in a permadeath game due to the heavy consequences - it should be a decision the player actively makes, not a casual act. Originally, I suggested that aggro might be removed from players after knockout; however this would give them the option of logging, so wouldn't work out. That leaves two viable alternatives for implementing this:

  • Add a rightclick coup de grâce command to the fallen character.
  • Add a deathblow ability to deliver the final strike after knockout.
Either way this should have a cast time. Adding this feature would also cause sparring between allies to be less dangerous.

also contains hilarious quotes such as this:

Why don't you go get punched in the head a few times about it
Delamore wrote:Anyone who continues claiming "accidents happen" is good has clearly never been involved in any PVP, at the point I've gotten to if combat gets fast enough that I get another hit in when you fall down you're dead unless you have 300+ strength. Great accidents happen for me with 98% of the population. Because we all know realism trumps balance and actual game play.

a right click option to slay a knocked out player, that would be excellent. Would solve the sniper thing.

there is no "sniper thing" 3 months into the world when everyone has steel plates archers cease to have a function so if anything iron/steel arrows with penetration need to be added. Get some armor and stfu.

That's already implemented.
