Banner and statue size

Banner and statue claim size needs a big boost, right now they are terribly small and required every few tiles.
Even if this means that they require more items to craft each, so be it. Anything that means every 5 tiles isn't a banner, and anything that makes turning on show villages look nicer.
They also should claim square areas rather than circles, everything in the game is built in square shapes why don't the things that claim them claim the most useful shape?

I completely agree. The circle thing especially seems counter-intuitive.

However instead of requiring more materials, I would like to see the quality of the material used affect the size. Small, crappy village gets small, crappy flags. Big, famous city builds big, awe-inspiring flags.

I'd prefer it if village claims used "Influence points" which work like normal claims. Only the lawspeaker/chieftain can use the points to extend village influence. Flags and statues will give influence points when built. Oh, and make sure the flags/statues can only be built at a certain distance away from each other.
You see a masterful engraving by Blaze. On it is Blaze, bears, boars, and foxes. Blaze is striking down the bears. The boars are screaming. The foxes are in a fetal position. The image relates to the return of Blaze in the late winter of 2009.

would the village claim always expand from the idol, or would it be possible to tailor the shape of the claim with flags/statues?
This could work, especially if some minimum and maximum distances were kept...
