How about, you put a bucket on your head, for very low protection at low levels?
It would decrease your perception but also give you carpentry skill as you see the ins and outs of wood!

Also, a requirement to put it on would be having very low intelligence. (like 7)
It would lower perception and charisma.

I don't know if it would lower charisma, sometimes putting a bucket on someones head would increase their appeal.
