Don't know if this is a simple query, but I'd like to know if this game is open source or if you have a closed dev group to work on it. I've heard a rumor that there are some "private" servers of this game & was curious if there was a set up available to use for developing.

I'm interested in seeing if there would be a way to add a messaging system into the game. Like in-game mail to leave messages for friends when they are offline. I also wanted to see if the coop/hen system could be expanded for a hutch/rabbit system.

The large wagons seem a tad less functional at the moment since having a road system would be more beneficial to using them. Traveling traders would also need guards to protect them from being attacked if they were to survive. Bear and boar also are dangerous, though with such a large wagon I would wonder if they would be aggressive toward it or not.

Having the ability to add in a bulletin board where messages can be posted for hiring help may or may not be possible. I'd like to see how that could be coded in, but don't know the code presently so I can't say if it would work.

If the world is available for open source development, is there a place set up to get it with instructions to what is needed & how it is meant to be set up on a server?

Thanks and I hope that this isn't too difficult a question to be posted here. :)

You're aware that we mods know your main account and already have watched that you don't care much about looking around and learn how things work in this forum...Edit: different users on same IP ...

1. Messaging system? Just leave a parchment or a runestone at the person you want to message. That's basically what they're for.
2. Rabbit system was already suggested, but I doubt the devs will add meaningless updates before they recode the whole game.
3. If travelling traders would need guards, time and caution against animals why would anyone use wagons to trade when they can teleport?
4. I don't think anyone would hire via bulletin board.
5. It's not available for open source development. The "private" servers are basically people coding the whole game from scratch and stealing it's graphics(pretty sure that's what the private servers are).
There's no "closed dev group", it's just 2 guys who care for and update the game in their spare time.

Tl;dr: 2 guys working on the game, they're gonna recode it so not much meaningless updates, some of what you said is already implemented, and most of all:
This is not made in something like Game Maker. There's no setup made for developing, no instructions how to make the game. If you want to, take a friend who knows how to program and design games as much as you do, draw up some graphics and take 5 years to develop the game yourself.

Only the client is Open Source

There sure might be ways to implement an external "message board" server to a client but you'll have to code and run it yourself

Loftar is already working on Haven 2 but he doesn't sound particularly gung ho about it.

veritas vos liberabit - in reply to my welcome here

Postby starrweaver » Sat Sep 28, 2013 9:54 pm

Excuse me for being a bit offended and disappointed. I had believed that this forum was a place to get information and exchange ideas. Frankly, I find the tone of "we mods know your main account... " to be rather presumptuous. This IS my main account. The post I submitted was my first, this is my second and most likely my last. My nephew, my sons and my daughter play with me. My brother and sister also play this game. So far that I know of, my nephew is the only one that has used the forum to get information. His actions have no reflection on me personally, he's a teenager.

Personally, I find the tone aggressive and not very helpful. I was polite, I was interested to know the circumstances of the game development. Frankly, the rune stones are fine, but being able to reuse them would be helpful as some messages are rather crude. Parchment I've not yet discovered so I did not know about it. Forgive my naivety in the mechanics of a game I've only recently started to play.

Thank you Borka for offering the information I was interested in. I appreciate it.

Thank you NOOBY93 for the suggestion of creating my own game. Perhaps I'll talk it over with some of my Dev friends and we may consider it. I don't believe it would take 5 years for a large group to make a decent amount of progress. Implementation of customizations, polishing the system and debugging could take some time I agree. But as I've said, the overall reply to my posting was not very positive nor helpful. I found it rather demeaning and even threatening. I'm also sorry that it appeared to be too much for some to read. It only emphasizes the short attention span and literacy issues that are currently problematic today.

I appreciate the dedication of the two young men who are creating, presenting and offering this game to the public. They seem creative and intelligent, besides being generous in sharing their creation. But I hope that they also are aware in the moderation of their work that negative elements can cause negative reception. Having those that assist them in the presentation of their work should be social, positive, mature, honest and civil. Having good Public Relations will help when and if they choose to offer their game commercially.

Sadly, if you are actually checking my account, then you would know that I have only two accts. The second is for my young granddaughter who has no email. If you are following the IP perhaps you may realize that more than one person could possibly live in the same house? Maybe even have more than one computer also? My nephew Drako does not own a computer, he uses one of mine or his brother's computer. That you can verify by noticing that he logs in from more than one IP. Perhaps asking questions would be a more positive approach that accusations.

If you care to verify my identity, then feel free to contact me. You have my email. I'm easy enough to find on the internet as well. You have my name also.

I thank the two gentlemen for the delightful game that they have created. But as I stated, this will likely be the last post I make to these forums after the welcome I received here. If I have given any offense, I apologize. These are my personal views and opinions.

Have a pleasant weekend.

i just dont understand how an adult, not a teenager punk, would start asking questions without even reading the official "short" pages such as About and PAQ and get offended this much how a mod treated you wrong. it seems your nephew has a bad record/reputation on these forums, otherwise, mods would have thought of another reason for using the same ip. ask your nephew before blaming mods. the way you got offended and insisting this to be your last post seems a bit too overreacting to me either way.

oh, btw, being polite does not always erase your rudeness.
