Archery fix

Postby VladiX » Wed Oct 23, 2013 2:54 pm

Hi everyone.
I'd like to talk about archery and problems associated with it in late game. And sorry for a similar thread like this. But...

I'm archer, have q110+ ranger's bow and playing with two friends who are fighting in melee combat and have good q b12. Quite often we have been involved in battles and lately I've started to think that I'm useless!
Really! Like archer I can only kill people who are knocked out and twinks by sling. Really, to hit someone on 1 hp I have to aim, shoot without miss, overcome his armorсlass and agility...
True fighters are have 1300+ armorclass and 300-400 agility now. q110 rb have 994 damage, q160 arrow have 80 dmg, in total - 1074. In full martial we will get 1288 dmg. But many fighters have 300-500 agility and I will inflict much less damage or I should get 1000+ perception. Get 500 agi is much easier then get 1000 perc. Also, aiming takes too much time. Like 10 seconds if the target isn't moving, else I couldn't aim at all.

This is a very sad, that I couldn't help my friends in fight and there is some ideas to do archers more usefull
1. Fast aiming on running targets
If target is running the sight will decrease not so much especially when the target is running from you
2. Debuff on hit.
Reducing of the speed for a few seconds, or something else
3. Clear damage.
10% damage will penetrate through armor considering agility and perception. 130 damage that reduced by agility - not so much in late game, when 5/10 fighters have 800+ hp and 400+ agility.
4. Critical hit.
x2 or x1.5 damage with 10% chance
5. Ranger's combat skills
Shots that use IP, advantage... Maybe decrease target's armor, mm’s weight in combat, some melee skills (like short weapon for self-defense) or something else.
At all, archers are much easier then melee fighters. Use just 1 button "Shoot", aim and shoot! When melee combat have a lot of moves.

I'm not saying that you should definitely apply all the proposed, but each of them individually is worth the attention.

1 - I refer to this if you please http://www.havenandhearth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=34134
2 - This would be a bit too powerfull
3 - I thought of 5% or even less, but no armor penetration at all is just absurd
4 - This would make archers OP and luck based, high enough aiming speed and if you're you could take down some guys before they even had a chance
5 - I dont know if the game mechanics would handle this well

I want a buff to archers too but I dont want they to be the norm of warfare, pretty please Jorb? Loftar?
If I could I would heal and help people, but in this realm I can't...Wait...elixirs? *Dons Plague Doctor mask*

All these Archery suggestion threads are so useless. Its been pointed out many times that an archer does nothing against a fully armored fighter with good stats. Penetration has been suggested many times. I'm fairly certain loftorb is aware that the archery system needs reworked but it is unclear weather or not they believe it should be a viable method of killing people.

I dont think Archery threads are useless. If enough people hit the same area enough times it should at least dent it and archers would get rebalanced/viable a little more.

something like this would just destroy the game

palisades and brickwall = bs against snipers at this point already , who would want a super snipers in game ?

if something like this would go underchange i would say that palisade should have 60% full block chance for arrow and brick wall 90% and you could upgrade ur brickwall/pali with "parapets" to give you an possibility to shoot from inside -> to outside without penalties.. to have "siege" happenings to have more feel in it..

The way the game is implemented, there isnt an easy way to add that siege mechanism without rewriting a good portion of the code.

Well, it's a bit as if we travelled five years into the past, when we were happy with just having a player object walking around the map. :)
