This is more of a question then a suggestion. Since we have hearth magic, is there going to be more types of magic, such as battle magic?

There will, apart from hearth magic, be fours schools of magic, each of which is based on one of the four elements of pre-socratic greek philosophy: Earth, wind, fire and water. Each of these will have unique thematic spells, for example, the water school can shoot ice bolts, while the fire school can shoot balls of fire. Furthermore there will be a meter that replenishes over time, containing the fith element, aether, or mana, which represents your magical potency. Every time you cast a spell, you will lose some mana temporarily. There will also be little blue potions, found naturally occurring, and dropped from mobs, that you can drink to restore said mana a bit quicker.

There will be magic, but it will not fall into any of the above mentioned bromidic traps.

On the subject of magic, I'd like to make my point using starwars.

The way the force worked and how it was used varied very differently between the original series and the prequels. In the prequels the force could be measured, it was understood, and was used was a powerful and direct weapon in fights. However in the originals it was quite different. There was something mystic about the force, you couldn't understand it completely. It couldn't be measured, it simply was. It wasn't used as a weapon nearly as much as shown in the prequels, and more often manifested itself in a more guiding way, a subtle changing of the tide.

Most mmos go the way of the prequels. There are mana bars with numbers, and it is used in a very flashy way. I would prefer if H&H went the way of the origonal starwars, as it fits much more. The magic shouldn't be easily explained. It should be a part of and blend in with the world.

The original starwars...-es were awesome. Prequels not so much.


But I'd like to see less combat oriented magic, and more magic akin to what we have now.

I'd love magic so long as it doesn't branch off into a whole new combat system, I love the melee one right now. Even if it IS really incomplete, and every animal you attack can be bugged, glitched or tricked somehow. Still.

and yeah, the Starwars' 4-6 were epic.

I'm opposed to flashy magic, which is pretty much any kind of battle magic. What I'd like to see is witchcraft, more specifically hard to detect curses (curse a smelter to lower it's chance of producing metal etc.).

I find it ironic your avatar suggests your in an angry mob wanting to burn a witch, yet you want witchcraft. >_>

Well you can't burn witches if you don't have any. And witch hunts are loads of fun.
