Rattlesnakes and anti-venom

Postby OreoMac » Sat Feb 08, 2014 5:51 pm

I have seen some posts suggesting adding snakes but not much more so I wanted to go a bit more into detail about snakes than just adding them.
Rattlesnakes are a small animal that you would have to pick up like rabbits, the only difference would be that if you tried with your bare hands it would attack- you require a special tool called a scoop (made with a bar of metal and 2-3 blocks of wood) once the scoop has been equipped one could pick a snake up without having to kill it. If you choose to fight you must be careful because if it gets enough CA or initiative points it will bite you. If you become bitten it will deal damage at a slow rate depending on your constitution until you cure it. If you catch a snake it takes up a 2x2 area in the inventory and when strangled it takes up a 1x4 area. Collecting an alive snake unlocks the "Anti-venom potion" which requires a snake and a jar, this will create 0.1L of anti-venom. You must then right click an animal such as a pig or cow with the potion and similar to when you are taming them a small yellow number will appear above them- it would be a small number closer to 5 than 10- when this number reaches 100 the animal has produced enough antibodies for you to harvest, right click them with a jar to get a completed anti-venom dose. However if you butcher them you will receive snake meat, bones, snake skin and occasionally a curiosity called a rattle. Snake meat will unlock a few new types of sausage and when cooked and eaten provides a small number of constitution and agility FEP's. Snake skin, which takes 1x2 space, can be dried for dried snake skin which unlocks a new belt called the Vagrants belt which requires 5 snake leather and a bar of metal. This belt does contribute to defense unlike the poor-mans belt and provides a few points of agility.

I tried to make the anti-venom process realistic but without having the ability to freeze the anti-venom I had to make due with what would be available
Alternatively instead of jars one would use a glass jar and syringe made from glass and metal, but I wasn't sure about it, and as for the Vagrant belt I was just trying to come up with some incentive to actually hunt down snakes- aside for their meat and the occasional rattle. Anyway tell me what you guys think of this idea :)

A clearer format would be better, but this is a good idea.

Would the venom be deadly?

It could be a good psy csm food too.
The venom could go onto weapons and arrows as a temporary affect in. combat.

Yes, the venom would keep draining health until it is cured, the rate at which it deals damage is affected by the players constitution. If they have a high enough constitution the venom wouldn't affect them- but they would have to have higher than 100 constitution before that could happen
