Spirits

I was thinking we really should redo the spirits in the game. Some things are a bit unbalancing and allow the crossroad systems to be greatly abused.

First we should make wine racks stackable or as large as cupboards. This allow them to be more useful and hold more. Second change to wine should be the souring of it in buckets. It is a bit silly to have wine sitting in a bucket for all game and it never have an ill effect. Wine also should be removed from aging barrels and stored in bottles or demijohn's. Allowing it to age to long results in a some unpleasant effects.

Beer and wine barrels should be allowed to be stacked or cask holders to line up for storage ease. It should also not be allowed to be accessed without a tap applied to the barrel. The enemy of most brews and vintages is air exposure. This would thus separate the common barrel from those for spirits.

As I have already talked about flavor variations before I wont repeat that.

These are some simple changes but they do make an impact. The free ability to carry wine in buckets let alone running with said bucket and never spilling a drop is a bit far fetched. It has abused the crossroad system and combat. These suggestions would not hamper travel but place some limits on it. More bottles means less space for other items. Requiring wine be stored long term in bottles and demijohns ensures it must be carefully maintained. Small changes with a fair impact.

What are your thoughts?

I always tend to lean on the side of realism, esp in a survival game such as this (I deal with trolls by thinking ppl have just drunk too much wine whilst they are mining, or are suffering from delusions after a cave in to the head, lol) so, yes, I agree. Wine racks should definately be stackable for a start, I've also wondered why taps haven't been added to wine/beer barrels, I never checked so I figured maybe it was to do with the time period.

Now that we have the demijohns it would make sense to impliment these changes and make more use of them.

I've thought the same thing with regards to carrying water even, I think if you are carrying buckets of water then your speed should be hampered, you certainly can not run whilst carrying 3 or 4 buckets of water or wine! If you are out foraging you need the inventory space but are then hindered by lack of water if you have to run from attackers who are out and equiped with buckets solely for that purpose - this has always seemed totaly unbalanced and unfair to me.

All good ideas. But maybe some more container ideas. Such as being able to seal a barrel with wax to prevent spoiling. Maybe clay jars also sealable. Bigger seedbags. Bigger wine bottles. Bigger wine racks. I think this all has more to do with balance than adding new things. .02

Wine barrels are made with porous wood so it slowly ages. Sealing the whole barrel in wax only serves to make it harder to access when you want it and if you want to use it again you have problems.

And new items are never bad. Part of what make Haven repetitive is lack of variation. So new items are always welcome as long as they have use and customization to players.
