Reset worm feeding on server reset after crash

Postby theTrav » Wed Nov 18, 2009 11:31 am

After a run of bad luck (5 females in a row one batch then 6 males in a row next batch) my moth egg stock was massively depleted, and now we've had 2 server crashes in a row about the same time (Loftar sleep time).

Problem for me is that I put my eggs on the herb table, they hatched, I come home to feed them, oh wait, server down, can't do jack. Go to sleep, get up, server still down, go to work, server comes up, 10 hours later when I get home, moths have starved.

If you re-started the "feed me" counter on worms at stage 0 when you restarted the server I would again be able to produce silk (once I hunt down some moths).

You did it for leather, and I assume this would be a fairly easy thing for you to do.

Obviously please ignore if it's non trivial

Time doesn't actually elapse during server downtime, so it's just that you're not around for 8 hours after the server goes back up.

Try changing the timing of your silk production, so your eggs are hatching a few hours earlier than when you go to bed, or put the eggs on so they should hatch a few hours before you go to school/work/obligations.

I'm aware of this... I thought I'd made that clear in my post, problem is actually that the moths hatch an hour or two before the server goes down, so I've only got a few hours after the server goes up in which to put them in the chests

I'll have a look at the timings but I don't think it's going to be possible given that I only have 2x1 hour blocks to spend on the game each day, one in the morning before work, and another in the evening after work. If one of those blocks is knocked out by the server, doesn't matter which, then as far as it's concerned I'm leaving them unattended for 24 hours or more

Well, I could do that, but I fear that it would just re-introduce the leather problem. Of course, the server doesn't crash as frequently now as it did back then, so it might be reasonable.

This would harm almost everyone BUT Trav, he is running on such a short amount of time and requires it to work during his special time windows.

I contest that it would cause significant harm to people who want their worms ready earlier, please show reasoning to prove your claim.

I contest that people who spend one or two hours a day are in the minority of players, please show hard data to prove your claim.

You are the one requesting change, you should be the one who has to prove it would work best for most of the players.

My OP contains the request for the change and sufficient reasoning and proof to show that it will benefit at least one player.

You are against the change and have backed your opposition with unsubstantiated claims. I would like to know if they are real claims or just hot air. Right now I can't tell and aren't really moved to do your research/thinking for you.

I support trav's suggestion, most people don't play for big chunks of time a day and usually don't have time to do things like tree planting or silk and steel except in narrow windows of time simply because of the time constraints.

I would also like this. I just lost a full load of my best quality eggs/worms due to server downtime.
