A modification to the LP system

Postby TheFatPrincesss » Thu Apr 10, 2014 2:23 pm

I know that jorb and loftar have no interest in changing the LP system, but this minor change could be great!
The devs can keep the curiosity system, but when hunting you get LP per kill, excluding the chickens and rabbits. Say you get 750 Base LP per bear kill. This is just an example, but I would see this change being great

Hunting is currently pretty rewarding, just not on it's own.
A bear worth of stuffed bears is worth roughly 180k-200kLP for me.
Plus bears are VERY good str FEP for beginners, likewise deer are VERY good Agi, plus the occasional int level up.

Bears are, if you're a reasonable level, are easy to kill and profitable, since a bear is worth about 50 points in trade. There will be a high demand for them, until animal's hides are higher quality than bear hides for more than just the elite. People will be replacing their CTCs/Lpants/Rboots every other week, bear intestines will be the best cheese-makers will get for a while (we've already past that a while this world, but still.)

In olden days, bears, especially bears living in the deepest of the wilds, would net thousands of LP per kill.

This led to people just taking the LP "reward" and leaving the carcass to rot.

The only modification I might see as acceptable would be to change how the study LP is given.

Simply allow each curio to pay it's LP over-time, based on it's study-rate, instead of a lump sum. And either remove the ability to stop studying an item once it's been inserted into the study panel or change it so it's LP total actually decreased based on it's % of study which is retained to each individual item. (though IMO simply perma-locking the study panel would be easier).

The overall result would be the same as the current system in terms of overall LP gain rate, but you would be receiving a constant trickle of LP, so you aren't completely locked in bad decisions at lower levels or stuck having to wait 20+ minutes for a few more points of LP.

Why should you be rewarded for ivory poaching?

Yeah I agree that killing things should give some LP. It wouldn't really change the LP system that much, it would just add a bit of bonus for active game play.

Yeah yeah I know that people can bot it, but I doubt anybody would seeing how easily a bear could wrek your shit. You can't really write a bot "smart" enough to kill a bear or deer. Plus you could easily get killed by a player who sees some asshole wandering around unintelligently and is obviously a bot.

I highly doubt anybody with a character high enough to easily kill bears would risk it doing stupid shit like that for so little LP.

Animals giving lp for killing them was one of the major contributing factors to the death of world 4. Botting was the stake through the heart but people with upwards of 4m lp within hours of the first day of the world didn't help.

As it is you already get lp for killing them in the form of curiosities from butchering them.
