Thickets are miserable.

Thickets are miserable.

Why? These horrible biomes are somewhat a rare sight, certainly a lucky fact to be sure.
They are miserable, deadly, laggy, ugly, boring, and extinguish any hope of even slight benefit in that immediate area.
Their only purpose it seems, to screw you and your waterflask. Their other only purpose, it seems, for those who are high enough or weird enough, is to build in them.

Sure, a decent natural defense to be sure, but certainly not worth it for how miserable it is.
Why have these heaps of sorrow got nothing to show? Absolutely nothing going for them?

I'd like to dedicate this thread to how much they suck.
And how they can be improved.
:!: Let's think :!:
-Curios
-Resources
-Unique items (Resources, curios, tools, things to build tools, raw materials)
-Mechanics

I'd like to think, that their mere existence is a display of rabid growth, so why don't they grow back when cut down? Unless like, say a wall is erected within them, this might make their value tactically rise, since when one ram is placed, a million won't be a problem. And why is there no life in the thicket? It's meant to be a harbor for life, bloody look at it, imagine all the creepy crawlies, dead things, lost things, crazy rituals and things that have been through there and are going through there?

It's a thicket for a reason, it seems pretty solid an idea to be a way to harvest raw (and lots of it) wood! And bugs!
Maybe unique life or resources, who knows. Who'd like to talk about them?

Is this even in the right place?

I dunno.
Nothing actually, they're pretty neat.
I just wanted to hear ideas from people to change or manipulate them in some way or another.

We should have a whole supergrid that's all thicket with no rivers, but with precious resources hidden toward the middle. Something to spark active conflict that doesn't involve chasing.
Of another era.

That sounds exciting. Would ancient temples filled with traps be too cheesy?

I actually love thickets.
They make me feel safer. And they are a bit mysterious :)

It would be cool to make them more interesting though. I just simply avoid them, lol, i'll walk miles to go around them!

I think Nini's idea is good, but even if they just had some form of wildlife and curio's it would at least bring them into the game and not just be an area that's ignored.

Thickets contain life in rl, they offer a dense, safe cover for a variety of birds species, such as quail and pheasants, (you also get rabbits). They provide shelter for breeding and protection during the winter months, not that we have seasons, but ........ they are also used by other bird families for food and nesting and are teeming with insects.

Quail and pheasants could be caught for food and feathers which in turn could raise, well agility would seem appropriate, lol, and the feathers be crafted into some new item or curio. Insects would be plentiful so they could be an added hindrance in some way, they bite, sting, causing damage the longer you are in there but, there are one or two really rare species that are particularly hard to find in all that dense undergrowth and therefore provide some kind of sort after, exciting rare curio, to encourage people to venture into them.

And maybe have an item in there somewhere which can be used as a temporary stamina boost, a stationary item like a boulder which you have to offer something to in order to gain a boost - actually, lol, I'm not sure about this last bit now, it's sounds more 'fantasy' then 'survival', anyway, yep, they should definitely have something more going for them. :)
