Ladders?

Postby Belleraphone » Sun Jun 01, 2014 12:11 pm

Okay, I'm kind of disappointed nobody hasn't pointed this out yet. Ladders. Why ladders? Because it's realistic. It would take 4 boards, 8 blocks, 10 sticks and 10 glue to build a ladder. You put it up against the wall and climb over on the other side of the wall. This would make raiding more realistic and more like what raiding was actually done like back in that time period. You also need two people to carry it, so it needs team work. It has to dry for 20 mins. It does not take damage while you walk with it.

Stupid walls didn't stop raiders a 1000+ years ago, Mongolians scaled the Great Wall of China was ladders and grappling hooks, so I'm pretty sure we can climb over these walls.

No, just No.
This would make battering rams POINTLESS, and it would require NO SKILLS, apart from the ones needed to build the ladder
If any ladders are EVER added, it will almost certainly be for something else, not walls.

To make this clear:
If you had spent hours and hours building a brickwall to protect all your hard earned stuff, how would you like it if some-one just climbed over said wall, and stole all your stuff?

I know it seems counter-intuitive but please think realistically. Can a wall really stop a ladder? A ladder could simply be placed and you would be able to climb over it. A ladder would have disadvantages of course, though. It would be easy to break and you wouldn't be able to carry chests over it. There are ways to balance this.

I think not many guys want to guard their walls every 20 minutes.

This is a game and you're an idiot. Why do you think having to check your walls for ladders every 20 minutes is a fun mechanic? It's not and it would render walls, battering rams, and everything else pointless because you can't protect anything. The current siege mechanics are terrible and this would make it even worse.

I dislike walls in general. The game for me was so much more fun when everything was open.
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy
