Strawsacks?

Postby Fluffy » Sun Nov 22, 2009 10:04 pm

so I was reading the forums and Jorb made a post suggesting plants should yield more straw. No. Not right now, straw just clutters your inventory. Plus it's a hassle to pick up off the ground. What I'd like to see is some sort of straw sack you wear inplace of a backpack. It'd be just a container for straw that you wear in your backpack slot, that can be filled with 40 inventory spaces of straw. It would require farming and cloth making(that's the name of it right?) to craft, and the resources would be either four leather or four linen.

Basically it would work like a seedbag, but you can open it up to see what's inside so you can easily transfer materials from it's inventory, to a building sites inventory or a container. It could even work for plant fibers or poppy flowers, maybe.

I'd be concerned if everything is headed towards its very own container. What we need are more general containers, while specialized for a specific task, aren't geared towards a single item.

Sacks would be great, but instead of just straw, they should gather any extra item that is yielded from harvesting - tea leaves, straw, poppy flowers, plant fibers, etc, or even just the ones that fall to the ground now (plant fibers and straw).

Exactly what I meant by "It could even work for plant fibers or poppy flowers, maybe." It would make harvesting fields much easier and efficient. Besides, slaves used cotton sacks. I would imagine farmers would use sacks for other items they harvested.

I think the ability to bail a bunch of straw together with a piece of string (that you get back after debailing) would be a good solution.

A possible way that would work is a crafting item, bail. In goes a bunch of straw, and one piece of string. After a short crafting delay, you'd be lifting a bail. You can look inside the bail to see what quality of straw is in it (like an container, but you can't move anything in and out, viewing only), and have an option to take the bail apart and get the ingredients that made the bail out.

Also, all the more reason to have a pitchfork item that aids in picking up straw.
