Weight!

Postby Jfloyd » Wed Nov 25, 2009 3:23 am

I think we all know that weight needs to be done real soon.
The easiest way to do this should be everything has weight (obviously) and containers have a weight as well as the items in them.
Example:
A wicker basket weighs 1HG (Haven gram) and has a minimum 1 str requirement to lift.
Someone puts 40HG in it so it now weighs 41HG total, and would require say 18 str to lift.

This could fix the complaints about cupboards not being liftable, even with 1 seed in them.
It also shouldn't be too hard to implement, it's just 1 variable added to each item and container, and a global equation that everything refers to when lift is used.
also inb4 "Strength has too many uses already!!!!11!!!"

Good idea but I think that having many material possessions has a psychological burden. Therefore the weight you can carry should be based on psyche.

And slight constitution to continue carrying it.

Not to mention the agility you'd need to sidestep small rocks or other potential hazards.

It's really a matter of convincing yourself that you're able to carry the weight, isn't it? So it should be charisma.

The thing I have against weight is that with the current power curve, a newbie would be able to carry no more than one stick at a time, and the superplayers would be able to carry multiple chest-fulls of gold bars.

I exaggerate only slightly. As it is, the difference between pre-backpack gameplay and post-backpack gameplay is huge.

If it was a sensible power curve, one that didn't make newbies obsolete, then it would probably be acceptable.
Surprise.
