I don't like decay

Postby Agarrett » Wed Nov 25, 2009 4:17 am

Does anyone agree with me that the decay of palisades is really annoying and should be removed? It takes so much time to repair and maintain them, that they are hardly worth the trouble.

On the other hand, I feel that we don't see enough decay; there are huge expanses of abandoned palisades all over the place.

What we need is a new decay system that's not as annoying to repair and yet works faster to clear out abandoned stuff...
Surprise.

It's not the pallisades that have been abandoned that are annoying, it's the claimed areas. It's rather fun exploring inside the pallisades when the walls finally do start to fall down, and by then I am confident I am not intruding on anyone.

I think what we need is decay of claims and villages. This perhaps could be linked to the owner of the claim or the members of the village logging in. Decay perhaps only kicks in after six weeks without logging in. I dunno how hard that would be to code and six weeks would allow for someone getting sick, caught up in exams or going on vacation.

Decay works faster when there's less civilization.

The unfortunate fact of the matter is that there's an overabundance of civilization radiating from brodgar because of all the villages in the area and they don't decay at all.

Some more thought on how to handle inactive's would go a long way, and I'm not sure decay is really the right mechanic for it.

That and the fact that pallisades are completely worthless to begin with.

Yep. If they have a character who can afford the black arts, then they probably have a character who can take out palisades. So realistically, palisades arent much better than roundpoles, except they take longer to decay and you dont have to break/rebuild a gate.

Which woudln't be a big deal. I mean, it could be considered a noob fence to ward against other noobs.

But the fact the bricks walls are also piece of shit paper thin as well Is a real problem.

Yep. I totally agree. IMHO strength should increase damage on a curve, and FEP for it should be reduced. As I have stated before.
And also, brick walls should require some sorta siege engine to break through.

Nah, You should just be able to retrofit them war plates that cost stee and/or, or wrought. Gives them like 20k HP and and double DR. Sure, there are a few characters who are siege engines in their own right but with those buffs it'd still take blaze a few hours to knock through it and the rest of us could, as you said, build siege engines.

All in all walls are worthless and guard you against alt abuse but serious characters who don't mind leaving scents can literally do whatever the fuck they want to anyone.

Im not sure how this turned into a siege mechanics improvement thread, but one thing we could do for abandoned claims is maybe make some sort of declaim structure that takes a week to mature, cancellable by the owner of the claim being timed?
