Town Flags

Does anyone besides me think that we need more symbolization of what village we are a part of? This would include flags that we can customize and raise up above our town. They would require linen or silk cloth to make. Maybe there are 2 types of flags, one linen and one silk. The silk one would give a larger authority bonus.

That'd be really great, and we have, of course, been wanting those from the beginning. The problem is really just how the flags would be designed in-game.

well they don't have to be designed ingame. you could add some sort of uploading function to add an image file up to a certain size and dimension. Only available through the idol of course, along with all those village permission settings and such =P

Maybe some way to upload bitmaps through the account part of the website.

This could also be used to create seals, with some skill determining how much error there is in the stamp (to make forging difficult).

Haha, I didn't notice this thread until after I posted in the other one...
Anyway, what about some sort of pixel art style thing? A small grid which you can colour each square manually or draw lines and fill areas, etc... Or yea, allow the chieftain/lawspeaker to upload a bitmap...

Bitmaps would be nice, but it might be hard on the server. A nice alternative would be mix and match design using common heraldic elements. If I were designing the interface for it, I'd put it in the crafting menu. First you craft the base, then you apply divisions, then you apply tinctures in a specified order (dependant on the specific division), and finally you apply a charge. Divisions, tinctures and charges would all have their own sub categories in the heraldry category. Finished banner (or shield, surcoat or whatever base it is) can be used to copy the the whole thing to other banners, and lawspeakers can copy it to the village banners. Normal banners could be used as battle standards, hoisted on ships or simply hoisted on a flagpole anywhere (for purely cosmetic reasons).

you can do something a lot simpler than mix and match:

symbol
symbol color
background color

Wold love to do it. My only fear is that you'll be wanting those symbols on shields and armors and blazons and capes and god knows what else before I know it. If we all agree that this particular piece of losskastning (Dev team Swedish: Literally "throw-loosing", insanity, madness, craziness) is objectively speaking best kept to one singular flagpole object, then fine. ;)

Oh please, heraldry is SRS BSNS! You can't just go around trivializing it like that. :)
