Building Transparency

Postby Redell » Thu Dec 03, 2009 9:10 am

Ok, I've seen something like this posted here:http://www.havenandhearth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2199&p=24903&hilit=hide#p24903
But, I don't know if it got much recognition, so I'm making a topic specifically for that.

It would be extremely nice if you had and option like in "The Sims" (If any of you have heard of it) to be able to make the buildings and objects transparent and/or only show the base of it. I sometime find it very difficult to build a road behind houses and walls, and it is nearly impossible to see if my walls are degenerating behind my house.

No. As much as I would LIKE this it removes the ability to hide behind buildings and trees. Hide yourself, hide your crossroads, etc.

I generally dislike the idea of putting more UI-like elements into the game view itself; I think it breaks immersion. I was having a very hard time convincing myself to put the names of players into the game view in the latest kin update, and I could only bring myself to do it under the precept that they fade out and disappear after a while.

Also, there are technical problems with making objects transparent, as I've written about elsewhere.

Or you could make the interface customizable so you can hides part you don't like, and you could make the current buttons smaller so you can fit more.
You could also embrace the fact that everyone is using higher than standard resolutions and boost the default giving you more room for interface while also making it take less of the screen.

Definitely. Most are those are on my to-do list, but I think you know how much I like doing additional UI work... :P

As for resolution, on the other hand, I don't really want to boost the resolution of the map view itself too much, mostly because of the inherently increased bandwidth usage that would entail.

But I mean the current resolution is the bottom of the barrel, the smallest of the small.
Can't you settle for something in between mega huge and super tiny?

What are you talking about? 320×240 is the shit.
I love it when you can count the pixels.

Or at least implement some way of seeing the damage of a wall behind a building and being able to tell which kind of tile is behind certain objects.

I would say if something of this sort is done then it shoudl somewhow be tied to claims. iow, you can't use this feature unless it's your claim, village, or kinned/partied claim/village. This would make sense, improve playability and not break the ability to hide.

Not any more than the outlined figures we have now, though; or am I missing something?
