Yeah, is has some problems. But fixing them now does not make any sense, just w8 m8 for Hafen.
Pixel art is and always will be better than this plastic looking Hafen you gave us here.

That's to simple said ... it works for me since Java 8 was beta ... on windows7_64 with default client and different custom clients, also on Debian Wheezy based Linux ...

If you have troubles to get it running with Java8 on certain OS it's more a problem of OS vendors than HnH Devs or Oracle IMHO ...
