Change wheat.

Postby Chakravanti » Thu Dec 10, 2009 2:42 pm

At least as a temporary measure, draw up the current stuff as a series of half a dozen sprites that fit on half the tile and then make it two sprites for the wheat please. Do thi at LEAST until you can figure out wtf is causing this game to lag so badly and consume so many resources to begin with.

Please you're making my eyes bleed every time I go by the farms. We have a special place just for building mansions. We call it the 'lag-fields'.

It's a cheap fix to make the game bearable until you can figure out wtf the core issue is and fix it. GRanted, but it would really make the game much more playable.

Yes, please do. Here's a JNLP for running it:

And also, what graphics card to you use?

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV34 [GeForce FX 5200] (rev a1)

I can run pachos. At high res (1024x768) I get a bit of lag everywhere. I don't usually get lag at standard res but I can't figure out how to reset the configuration file because I've already deleted it and am not getting options for it. I still can't do yours, theTrav.

Update: I'm not noticing any difference between the original client and the textpack. What is the difference?

Non proprietary drivers on slackware? (no idea what the impact is, just could be relevant)

The difference is a change in texture change. The texpack client packs all the sprites from one resource into a single texture and draws from that, which lessens the impact of texture swapping, especially when drawing lots of plants. I was hoping that it should make a difference in performance. From what I've seen, texture swapping seems to affect nVidia cards the least, though; I was hoping you'd have ATI or Intel or so.

I don't think you saw the other post, so I'll just repeat myself here. I can't seem to be able to harvest from my farms after I merged with the texpack branch.

Well, indeed. The texpack code isn't really meant to be used. I just wanted to know if it actually made rendering any faster before continuing on it.
