Serious Lack of Players

Postby Agarrett » Sat Dec 12, 2009 5:30 am

As everyone knows, this game is extremely small in comparison to alot of others. I propose that we have a team that spreads the name of this game in any way they can, without simply spamming its name. For example, you are an active member of a forum, and you decide to mention the game as a cool game. 2 or 3 people check it out and decide to play it. That's already a couple more players. Comments?

until they implement some of the suggestions to fix the lack of interaction in this game or come up with their own solution, their is no point in advertising. why bother advertising for them if they dont feel it is a big enough problem. all you will do is get someone to check out the game, then they will NEVER come back. most of the time, a person will check out a game ONCE. if they show up right now and start playing unless someone is sitting right there to help them out, they are probably gonna leave. no one plays a game where they think no one else is playing.

I thought you quit because the game was boring due to a lack of content....

There's players enough to help with alpha testing, which is what J&L need, right?

Myself, I haven't played in months, and honestly can't see myself bothering until LP replacement/char wipe/new world, whenever that might be.

A larger playerbase is harder to please. Once you have the large playerbase, you'll have to appeal to them with every single change you make to the game or risk losing them. And if you're going to appeal to large crowds, then the game has to become more mainstream, thus it could end up more boring for us and less unique. I would enjoy seeing a much larger playerbase in the game though, but I don't see how it would be sustained over time unless they stopped adding things to the game for a while.

I can't say I know for sure, of course, but I'd guess that we lose a lot of potential players because of the state of the early game and, in particular, the state of the RoB. Everytime I think about it, it strikes me as a wonder that Haven has players at all...

We'll be trying to start addressing that in a hopefully rather near future.

this game has huge potential, you just gotta make it so people can play the game on shittier computers and that people have a benifit for living in high population villages. iam possitive i could get a number of people playing from my runescape clan but i dont think i wanna invite them right now because they would probably try it out and see no one all day long and quit. they would be used to playing runescape and seeing people everywhere.

Honestly, I've been playing for awhile now and I'm getting sick of people complaining about the developer's neglect for their petty whims. Whimper all you want, but you do not realize what this game is: IT'S STILL IN ALPHA TESTING. That means it's not a completed game. I know this may be difficult for some people to wrap their head around, but when someone says that something is INCOMPLETE that doesn't mean that it's COMPLETE.

You, the hypothetical user of this elaborate and FREE game, must realize this: your are a guinea pig. The controversies that arise, the flaws that exist, and the other problems that ensue are data, observations and feedback for the creators of this game. It is not a problem, in my mind, that we are guinea pigs, because we receive a free product in return for our service. This service is playing the game, which seems like a win-win situation--especially if you, the consumer, are not losing any money on this deal. The only thing worse than a guinea pig, is one which is ignorant of its true nature, and you, the qualified exhibitionist of incompetence and ignorance, are the essence of the irony--you are the pun.

My advice is to take the game for what it's worth. I would much rather play Mortal Online, but I do not have the money to pay for a new computer. So, I play this game when I'm tired of Xbox, or if I don't have homework, etc. etc. Since, the game is free, you do not lose anything except your time, which you would lose to any game essentially--which compound in detrimental side-effects if you actually PAY for this time loss. If you find that someone killed you, if someone stole your goods, or if someone moved your basket, just quit. You're right, such traumatic experiences warrant such drastic measures. I almost stubbed my toe logging into this game, and I'm debating about quitting forever. If the clicking hurts your fingers, or if you experience carpal-tunnel syndrome, quit. If it's too dark to see, quit. If you post threads which produce no beneficial or logical effects, quit. If the server is down, quit. Honestly, everyone just quit (if you have not picked up on the sarcasm as this point into my thread, you might as well quit--this isn't sarcasm).

Edit: I forgot to thank the creators, Jorb and Loftar for creating this game. Hopefully others will too.
