Canaries and Open flame.

Mining seems awfully ...Safe to me..

To ensure safety for mining players, they should create beams as a guarantee that cave-ins wont happen there. While the cave-in aspect is likely not going to sit well with the whiners, let's move onto something good.

Birdhouses, Canaries, and natural gas pockets - Birdhouses will lure birds in with seeds and shelter, A canary can help a miner stay safe in a mine, Canaries die long before gas can kill a player or cause an explosion which could seriously injure them.

Mining could use some difficulty to spice it up, but instadeath stuff like explosions may be a bit too much. After all, the game's setting is in Europe, not China.

Nice one. But I never said permadeath, The explosion would seriously injure a player not kill them, Im talking knocks your ass out and brings your HHP to 25% of what it was.

The gas wouldnt insta-kill you, aside from the canary dying there would be other warnings, Loss of stamina despite using any actions, and a slow drain on HHP would be plenty.

Yea, like mining isnt the least rewarding activity anyway, lets nerf it farther!

On a more sarcastic note:
Going full industry means: I cant raise crops -> cant make any other food than sausages
I cant raise trees -> cant make good metal

Now if i make an industry alt, and go full nature on my main:
I cant make wrought -> no good metal
I cant make good jewelry.

I always need food, i need a new armors once every 3 months.
Sure you could argues this encourages trade, but it doesnt. I can hardly trade enough to fill my hunger. I have to abuse infinite milk to make cheese with an alt, because it doesnt need high farming for good quality.

Well perhaps metal prices should drop a bit. This isn't 3 months ago, people. Bow before the forces of supply and demand.

The demand is pretty much filled, because everyone has their chests and cellars stockpiled, while i need food every day.
I cant lower the price, because i need to get enough food to mine those and make at least some profit of it.

On the old map I was getting up to 40 cast coins for cakes once the demand for metal died down. I don't think we're there yet, though. But basically, as long as what you're getting for your metal takes more work than making the metal, you're getting a good deal. Making a bar of cast takes 5 ore and 1/4 of a coal lump, which is about as much work as harvesting 3 tiles of wheat and 3 tiles of carrots, and making cakes out of them (1 butter is worth at least 1/4 coal). So anything over 3 cakes per bar is worth it, though I wouldn't take that deal right now if I were a miner. I think that currently 5-6 cakes per bar is the lower limit for metal producers.

Oh, and I'm assuming equal quality here. Quality can adjust the price considerably. I'd say that fair reward for quality would be multiplying the base value by sqrt(q/10), maybe a bit more.

And please, hunger is a *good* thing for any established player. I myself am having a hard time eating all my food, even though I don't make much food at all.

Just that everyone could get a mine next to his door on the old map.

So ill sell you 20 bars for 120 carrot cakes, you make a cellar, a cauldron, a meatgrinder and 20 chests from it. Ill be hungry on the next day, youll never need bars again. Good trade.

If iron prices were low enough, farmers would be using metal ploughs.

But yeah, there is way too many metal producers in the economy. The sector's gotta shrink if it's going to be stable.
