Backpack und Quiver

make me have my quiver on my waist or in my hair, whatever its just fucking annoying not being able to use a backpack or a bearcloak because you use a bow.

I agree to an extent. I'd be totally fine with a quiver taking up the backpack slot if the two were more easily interchangeable. Right now if my backpack is equipped (which it almost always is because I have good use for it!), I have to go through a longish process to use my bow. Open my inventory, open my character screen, make sure nothing is in my backpack slots, remove my backpack, place it on the ground/inventory depending on space, equip my quiver, close the screens, and shoot. That can prove a bit useless when you're trying to get your bow out for something important, say a bear or thief or what have you.

Most of the time I'm running around with my bow and quiver equipped and inventory otherwise full, and backpack taking up 4 inventory slots. That way I can respond immediately to a threat, but still potentially have the space from the backpack when I need it later (after killing something, or gathering wood (though I use a cart with that), etc).

How about two new items: A waist quiver and a leather satchel? Basically the waist equivalents of a quiver and backpack. I know that I absolutely need more space to carry stuff; the backpack was a bit underwhelming.
You see a masterful engraving by Blaze. On it is Blaze, bears, boars, and foxes. Blaze is striking down the bears. The boars are screaming. The foxes are in a fetal position. The image relates to the return of Blaze in the late winter of 2009.

I think the system is ok as it is.

The players are forced to make a choice between offensive capability and productivity. Back packs let players carry quite a bit, and for stupidly large hauls you can use containers in carts.

If you're finding that you run out of inventory space too often, then perhaps you are carrying more than you really should out of fear that you will lose items to thievery / server crashes...

I guess that's understandable too a degree, but I don't think it's a good reason for making this change.

But melee characters don't have to make this choice, do they? Unless they're wearing a bear cape which isn't required to actually attack.

You think melee characters have it easy right now?

Having both a melee and a archery guy, yes, it is MUCH easier for melee. Not only the quiver backpack juggling, but also ARROW PICKUP! god help my carpal tunnels!
I do feel it is balanced out right now by the lack of pathfinding, which makes archers nearly invulnerable, but when you add pathing in, archers are going to be worthless. I know Ill be retiring my 60+ skill archer when pathing is impemented until something is done about archery...

Well I never said that it was easy for melee characters, I just said that they don't have to make the choice between productivity and combat. I think the ultimate goal here is balance between the two in terms of ease and proficiency.

Carts are NOT safe. Do NOT put containers (or anything else important) in your carts unless you want to take the risk of them getting eaten, along with everything in them, by a server crash happening an hour or so later... I've lost all my chests, all my seeds, and basically everything I wasn't carrying on me to this happening twice in 2 or 3 days.

The only thing I'd put in a cart now would be chopped-down trees.
