Oil.

Oil.

Oil! This would be an awesome addition, to be used for lanterns (a wider circle of light), deepfryers (so shit can be deepfried, chips too when potatoes are added) and finally boat engines, to make boats even faster than they currently are- but also require a LOT of oil. Mmm. Motor oil flavored chips.

This would rock.

Especially the lanterns.

It could be mined with the mining skill, and collected with a bucket.

I'm not a troll. I just thought lanterns would be good, it'd give glassmakers something else to make too. :)

Lanterns would be nice.

Oil, however, is a stupid, stupid idea.

Before crude oil is put into the game (at roughly the end of never), we should be experimenting with things like linseed oil.

If they add oil I want explosive backpacks. Wait, even better - moustaches and mustard gas.

mmmmoootttoorrrbboooooaaatttt!!!111!11

ahem.

If anything they should add sailboats not motorboats.

Reduce the speed of current boats slightly and make the sailboats move slightly faster than normal boats do now.

Sailboats should have a larger inventory and possibly space for 3-4 people.

Also maybe captured wind can be used to increase the speed of a sailboat for a short time.

-----------

Instead of oil lanterns why not just normal lanterns with a candle. The lantern could have a reflective interior and that could be why they have a brighter light? If a lantern is left on the ground it shouldn't die out. They could also add another stand just to hang lanterns on, makehouses with lantern hooks or add lantern hooks to boats. You should be able to turn them off/on and they should stay lit for a long time.

-----------------------

Instead of motor oil (lol) why not olive oil. They could add another crop: olives. You could eat them raw, press them to get oil or use them as ingredients in recipes. The olive oil could be used to deep fry things in a cauldron or saute stuff in a frying pan.

I'm quite fond of the idea of different types of oil, as opposed to mining it.

Grapeseed oil- made from grape seeds, flavorless in taste.
Flaxseed/linseed oil- made from flax seeds, light in taste.
Canola oil- made from rapeseed, medium in taste.
Olive oil- made from olives, strong in taste.
*Cottonseed oil- made from cottonseed, light in taste.
**Pumpkin seed oil, a specialty cooking oil, produced in Austria and Slovenia. Poor tolerance for high temperatures.
Apple seed oil, used in cosmetics and shampoos, also used as an edible oil.

*Cotton can also be harvested from the cottonseed plant, and be used to make bandages. This would mean no more covering yourself in leeches, or getting killed trying to tame sheep.
**Would this fit the theme of the game? It would certainly give us more to do with the pumpkins. Pumpkin pies would be nice too.

And...

Most people don't actually eat olives raw, and the process to cure them is long. But olive making would be an awesome addition to winemaking.

1. Wash the olives.

2. Break the fruit. You can do this with a wooden mallet, keeping the olives as whole as possible. You want the flesh torn, you don't want it to get mashed or to rip into several different pieces, or for the pit to get damaged.

3. Place the olives in cold water. Completely cover all of the olives. This can be done in a wooden bucket. At least once a day, change out the water with fresh, cold water. Make sure you don't forget, otherwise bacteria could build up in the water and your olives will be ruined.

4. Wait. This will be the hardest part of the curing process. For a month, switch out the water daily, and don't touch the olives again.

Lanterns were fine but you couldn't stop there. You had to keep going, didn't then? Next thing you know, you're suggesting motors in Germano-Nordic medieval setting. Why would you do that to me?
