- <nftyw> welp, bought a few rolls of gauze
<nftyw> I saw a saw being sold for 450 copper coins
<nftyw> Honestly the point is kind of lost on me since if you have the materials to build a coinpress, you have the materials to make a saw

You can get the coins at your own shop and use them at the other shops. Supply of coin might be a bit low ATM, but Brodgar is pumping coins into the economy, and I myself will probably mint all the copper I get my hands on. When we get enough coins in the economy, the shop prices will rise to realistic levels (currently stuff is too cheap because not many people have coins), so they'll be a decent way to acquire metal.
Vendors are only half of the small trade mechanic you mentioned so long ago.
It is more reasonable for new players to earn coin through bounties than it is to expect them to make their own vendor stand, know a good location for the stand, have enough room/land to place it, know what items sell well, and hope their stock actually sells. And there are immediate rewards for bounties.
Bounties can provide some direction in the game for new players to focus on, so they arent left wondering aloud what they can do to help a larger/established village - if a craftsman needs something but doesnt have the time to pick it up, they can set a bounty up outside their house. Bounties allow requests for uncommon or rare goods, where vendors usually aim at popular goods. People may also feel safer doing bounties than arranging direct trades between strangers.
