More boats

Postby gh777 » Thu Feb 11, 2010 6:05 am

more boat types would be nice,
something along the lines -
big boats - slower but more carrying capacity
row boats - need more then one person to in order to get better speed and carry more stuff
sail boats - similar to rowboats but with a sail and dont need more people to row them
just a suggestion

We need galeons. With galeons we could have epic sea fights and fire our cannons at other ships or fortresse- wait

We need cannons.

Also, metal chains across river estuaries to deny boat access.

With no seas to sail in. which I suggested to be in future map but was lol'd.

well wed definitely want working sails beforehand. can you imagine how incredibly tiresome it would be having to mouseclick to your destination across an ocean?

in fact you might even want to wait for a more advanced and less random worldgen before oceans, one that took all sorts of things into account like tectonics and currents and weather. otherwise itd just be more rorschachs, which honestly arent as thrilling to explore

A dugout canoe or flimsy-stick-raft that could be created using just survival skill would be an excellent addition, even if it was half the speed of the current boat and had no cargo capacity it would allow people to move around without getting a rather high cost skill. The other simple boat types like sail boats and rowboats sound good as well. The larger cargo boats need to be appropriate for the environment which is currently just rivers and lakes so no Galleons or other crazy huge ships untill Oceans are included (if ever), for now some kind of modest sized barge would be as big as we should go but even that opens up all kinds of difficulties in construction because its too big to lift necessitating some kind of launch-ramp to get it into the water.
