Please make combat less frustrating T.T

Gave hunting another try. This time with stats that seemed reasonable: Q29 bow, Q26 bone arrows, 13 Markmanship, 11 Dex.

Result: The same as always. Without exploiting construction traps, aiming is a friggin waste of time. Then, I either miss or hit without killing, which results in every mob hitting me like a nuclear warhead, and I'm forced to waste more time being unconsious. With exploiting construction traps, aiming still takes way too long, and i can't kill anything anyway.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but combat seems just terribly frustrating at lower levels. Construction trapping should be removed and mob power adjusted. Mob levels should vary with regions, maybe some mobs like deer should flee when attacked. The curve of player power should imo be flattened as well.

Sry for ranting ^^

Most people will tell you that those stats are way too low to hunt most things. What's your perception? That's what contributes to damage.

Try using a sling. They're easier.

Mob levels vary with the level of civilizations, but maybe you know that and just mean there should be some low level animals everywhere.

Why is it that everyone must pay penance to the grind god in order to get the most basic resources? I've always been bewildered at this decision, and I'm sure it will only drive away players in the long run, if they don't flee the minute after they start.
Surprise.

yeah sling is way easier, but still you can't do much damage and they will either run off or you need to use exploitative behavior to kill them.

Try to get someone to make you a better quality sling. That way there is a bigger chance you kill your game with one shot.

1- Dex is not for combat
2- Most animals flee when they are wounded. And believe me, you'll hate when they run from you while your stamina drops and can only walk.
3- As said before, sling is better for starters. I'm pretty happy with mine.

Nevertheless, I agree that, at least for beginners, ranged attacks are useful only with construction trapping (or killing a bear with a river between)
I haven't tested with melee tank mode and ranged shooting from melee distance (fast accuracy & high damage)

I would really like combat system more simple. Those initiative and battle intensity things are beyond my understanding.
Throughout the centuries there were men who took first steps, down new roads, armed with nothing but their own vision.

yup, slings may be faster to aim, but they do even less dmg.
So I used Bow + Bone Arrows to get the most damage, but that doesn't work either.
Not even exploiting works because a deer instant-heals any damage that doesn't kill it.

It seems the new combat system didn't change any of that...

You're trying to kill a deer with 13 mm?
I know people with 50+ mm that have trouble with deers....

Try fighting foxes as they are the lowest thing besides bunnys and chickens

3) Marksmanship skill.

Given that the bow and arrows have IEMM 2.0, if you have marksmanship 35, a q70 bow (i.e. effective marksmanship 140) and q 45 arrows (i.e. EM 90), you will aim with an effective skill of 35. If you have marksmanship 35, arrows Q 7 (i.e. EM 14) and a bow of Q 34 (i.e. EM 68), you will have an effective marksmanship skill of 14. The higher your marksmanship, the easier it is to aim. To put it in words, the equipment often supports you into higher ranges of Marksmanship than it has quality.

Weapons have an intrinsic difficulty level. Some weapons are harder to use than others. Using the standard woodbow as a reference point, the sling is twice as easy to aim with, and the ranger's bow thrice as hard. If you feel that you aim well with a woodbow, you will then need thrice the effective marksmanship value to hit equally well with a ranger's bow.

Ranger's Bow, Q10: 300 damage, IEMM 3.
Woodbow, Q10: 75 damage, IEMM 2.
Sling, Q10: 60 damage, IEMM 2.

Bone Arrow, Q10: 20 damage, IEMM 2.
Stone Arrow, Q10: 10 damage, IEMM 2.
Stones, Q10: 0 damage, no IEMM (i.e. their quality do not matter).

that means for you:
1) Weapon, Q29 bow x IEMM 2 = 58
2) Ammunition, Q26 bone arrows x IEMM 2 = 52
3) Marksmanship skill = 13

>>> your lowest value: 13 !!! = aiming speed!

you can see now what you did wrong?

i personally use a q30 sling and have 50 in MMS and i'm able to kill level X boars and deers...

that means for me:
1) Weapon, Q30 sling x IEMM 2 = 60
2) Ammunition, Q10 stones >>> no IEMM!
3) Marksmanship skill = 50

>>> my lowest value: 50 (i have to raise MMS up to 60 now for a better aiming speed)
hunting works for me.

that's how i understand archery, if i am wrong feel free to correct me!
