Increased Weapon Pool

I know Stone Spears have already been suggested, but what about other things? Instead of Arrows only being stone and bone, add metal arrows made from nuggets. Add a bone axe, and metal axes. add spears of stone, bone and metal. shields made of metal. maybe a bone cuirass for ppl who dont have the leather to make armor (and maybe have a Barbarism increase from it). and, of course, the Crossbow! it would have a longer reload and less range than a bow, but do a lot more damage, and maybe use bolts instead of arrows, if you want to get really realistic with them.

and, just a far-out-there suggestion that would be fun, but isn't needed...Siege Engines! Catapults and Balista to help you with those pesky walls, but cost a shit-ton of resources to build, not to mention the ammo! myabe Warships as well, with a small balista mount, and more storage and passengers than the rowboat (which, by the way, why does it fucking fly like their is a motor on it? shouldn't it be slower that it is and kinda fast-slow-fast, cuz of the rowing?

literally all of this has been suggested, and the consensus is, in a word "please?".

Crossbow? Less range? We aren't anywhere near the scope where range is an issue.

I think a better system would be to have to crank it after each shot, but the aim is much, much easier, and damage higher - Particularly the armour piercing aspect.

Crossbow's main advantage was how easy they were to use compared to bows. Having a much bigger punch helped, of course.

well, if/when range is a factor, then crossbow would be much shorter than bows, and yes, a crossbow is easier to use, becuz an archer needed strenght to pull and hold the string, but crossbows take time to reload (in fact, the most commonly used crossbows had stir-ups to hold them, and cranks to pull and lock the string

and to sabinati: then please, J&L, please, add a larger weapon pool! with plenty of options for newbs to protect themselves with more than a sling, stone axe, and thier fists!

No. Crossbows can fire with a much higher velocity. Bolts are less affected by wind. The only reason bows are commonly thought to have had better range was volley shooting. Which wasn't used with crossbows because the bolts went too far. And volley shooting isn't needed with the added strength and accuracy of a crossbow.

Yes, crossbows sound much better here. Thats because they were, as an army weapon. Bows were good in that ammo was easier to make, bows required much less technology to make, and the obvious speed advantage. The problem with crossbows is that against another guy, you'll only get one shot. If you miss, he'll have time to close in and smash your face.

Additionally, only small crossbows could be used on horseback. Mounted archers, however, were the tanks of the ancient world.

wow, you really know your medieval warfare. i think i need to brush up on mine lol. but yes, crossbows would make excellent military weapons, while bows would be good for hunters and scouting units. (my scouts will be armed with bows, and if crossbows are implemented, i will have ppl assigned to them, while grunts protect them)

Full on trebuchets would be too clunky, I think.

Battering rams would be great, though. Make walls MUCH harder to destroy by hand, and then add battering rams which require several people to use.
