Decaying authority objects

Postby Gauteamus » Tue Feb 16, 2010 11:22 am

I am just throwing out his idea to see what the response is (I can't remember having seen this come up before, but it sure must have, I just skimmed the last couple of pages)

Make banners, statues, future fun athority objects, maybe even idols have a (slow) rate of decay.

I'll wait listing the pros and cons while lookin at the response (or lack thereof), just noting that the change itself should be fairy simple codewise (needs some logic as to what happens when e.g. a "conenctive" object disappears, and even more logic rules if even an idol can disappear).

I want abandoned villages to disappear but I don't want to fix my statues all day long. It should be a check. If nobody logged on in a village for x days remove the village.

If it were based only on the idol, it might be alright...if the idol fails, then all the other village fail with it. Save a lot of time on maintenance that way, but still keep the decaying villages.

I completely agree, very annoying that every day I have to repair the fence around the house, though nobody was breaking. This is a waste of time and materials unnecessarily.
I propose to make things that are on the claimed territories had no decay, but if the owner wasnt more than a certain time, then they began to disintegrate.

well besides the fact that walls need too much resources to be repaired (way too much, actually), it would also help treating wall tiles in one line a a single object one can repair. going through every single tile is just tendious, if not really a waste of time.

I suggested in a previous thread to give village Idols a "refresh" property. Any member of the village can click the idol and refresh it along with the rest of the village. After so many weeks of the village not being refresh it will disappear along with everything on the village claim. Now with this being added there should also be a method for a village member to seize control of the village if the lawspeaker / chieftain fail to log in for a certain time.

Or base it on dreams...an idol can hold 20 dreams, it "eats" one a day. So with a few dream catchers you could preserve the idol for 3 weeks, but if no one does even that tiny amount of maintenance, after 3 weeks the idols is dead of dreams...

decaying banners = good --> makes for a regular demand for linen.
as I've stated elsewhere I think most items should have a way of being consumed by the gameworld.

also feeding dreams to the idol makes sense, dreams hardly have a use besides making new Hfires, and its sort of like "keeping the dream alive" the dream being the village ;)

like that dream-idea, too.
could be the same with the claim-banner of a single-player
