Grid-snap for setting down items

Postby hitoshirenu » Wed Jun 17, 2009 7:06 am

Title says it all. A lot of times when I pick up containers, I like to set them down in neat lines. It's a whole lot harder without a snap. Building them on a snap is great, but if you relocate or use the containers in a cart for gathering/transporting goods, you just can't get them back in the exact same spot.

In addition to grid-snapping for placing lifted objects, I think it would be nice to have the option of adding a defined grid when making roads or plowing fields. Sometimes it's hard to tell just where you're clicking, and leads to messing up. By this, I mean a visible grid, maybe bold black outlines or something.

If I'm missing something, feel free to add. Or shoot down my idea completely, both work. =/

grid placement has been brought up and the Loftar agrees that it should be added... not sure if he's done so yet though.

Not sure how I feel about displaying a grid overlay though, I guess if I don't like it I don't have to use it.

We already HAVE grid placement of objects, though it's not documented, really. Hold shift while you right-click to place a lifted object and it will snap to the grid. Oddly, when you're building things, it's the opposite -- then, if you hold shift, you can make it NOT snap to the grid if you want.

Grid overlay would be nice for us field workers, for making sure we have the right number of spaces marked out, and that everything is in a nice line.
