If you wanted to make the game more explorable, you could start adding the ability to craft certain things by having objects interact with one another.

Eg, make a toga, and use grape juice to dye it purple or ash to dye it black.

The point being that rather than have a convenient menu that just tells people recipes for everything, they have to figure it out themselves, and then they can either share the recipe, or keep it a secret.
