ALTPOCALYPSE!

Postby niltrias » Wed Jun 17, 2009 11:44 am

Heh. I like my title better.
These guys are amazingkly determined. not only are they thouroughly ransacking every claim I have found, they are persistant. I stopped putting things in my containers 3 days ago but everytime I log in, the containers have been checked again. Still, i think that a few changes would clear things up quite a bit...
(some are stolen from other posts, I would just like to collate them and put them up to second them. Heh. Or Im just a forum alt.)
1) make tresspass and theft more expensive. This will force a higher investment in time to thieve.
2) alternate character cap, with a wait time on adding new ones in the case of deletion. Stops spamming, makes characters more valuable, while still allowing new starts.
3) Summonable hearthless people. For the obvious reason that this breaks the justice system. This appears to be coming, but im looking forward to it.

With just these three changes, I think the current era of altpocalypse will pass...

As i have already said here : viewtopic.php?f=5&t=520#p4333
2. Making abused skill learning time-related, as with "Personal Beliefs".

Making LP cost higher is not the solution, as new players may have diff to grind that much. Time frame is the real solution. Players must be determined to choice the path of thief.
Adding new belief : "Criminal <-> Law enforcer", and only higher value of that belief allows you to learn either how to steal, either how to hunt thief.

I read that thread before I posted, but i disagree. If they have to grind everytime, and know they are going to be hunted down, it will become much less profitable. Especially if the casts were increased. Like tresspassing to 5k, and theivery to....something higher. (My characters dont have tresspassing, so im not sure how much thievery costs.) I think that it is more the total safety of no hearthfire than it is the ease of grinding.

On top of that, if people say no to grounding baskets and teapots on the grounds that it makes the map look like crap and makes creating alt thieves easy, people who want to grind newbies quickly are going to have to leave the safe areas where there are people and go out to dangerous areas, before they have the skills to survive there. This will also make it less attractive. but again, when the hearthfire bit is fixed, those who do grind out these skills will be hunted down and killed almost instantly.

Im against swinging the pendulum back too far. I think some slight tweaks will be all it takes to make it unprofitable. Actually, Im not even sure that the number of alts needs to be limited, if the Hfire and the xperience are dealt with.

Thievery costs 3k. IMO you should mainly increase that cost into the 7k level of sorts. And, obviously, make the people without a hearth summonable at the Ring of Brodgar.

Yup, now you are looking at 12k for an alt thief, lost after 1 hijink spree.
That will seriously decrease the abuse.
I personally like the idea that not having a hearth fire makes you summonable ANYWHERE. (its not mine, i stole it. I am becoming a serious Forum alt thief. heh.)

That won't work (at least on any of them who know how to make macros, if any of them do)... You can make 20k macroing incomplete dreamcatchers in a single night.

And you can have several characters grinding at the same time. (Granted, this would need some exceptional skill at writing macros.)

ugh I don't like this macroing buisness at all, I hope it wilt be dealt with sooner than later, But I can imagine there are more fun things to develop than anti bot/macro measures.

and summoning heathless people at the RoB does sound like a fair solution, Perhaps death would always take away the antogonistic skills? or would that be to harsh? it would mean that an insuccesfull crime means that you'd have to get enough LP to try it again.
