More whining about the murders

Postby Brian » Thu Feb 25, 2010 11:07 pm

In my opinion current murder mechanic has two main problems:
1) "high level" players killing noobs just for fun
2) Murder alt's

While that mechanics also has serious advantages — lack of "safe zones", no level fighting restrictions etc.

So here is my suggestion. What if every murder would require lp (or wyrd when it's implemented, i guess it would be even better with wyrd) in addition to base lp cost of a murder skill. If balanced right that would mean that you can of course kill one or two your sworn enemies, pretty much like you do right now, but killing random newbie would not be that much fun. Why would someone spend twenty minutes of hardcore grinding just to ruin some stranger game?

Maybe lp cost should grow with each murder, like first three-five you get for free, from five to ten for 5k lp each, then 10k each and so on, something like that. Cost should also decrease over time when you not killing anybody. Maybe it could be seriously affected by personal belief's.

Obviously there still wont be any safe zones, while creating a murder alt would still be possible but going on killing spree with it could become very time consuming.

Also maybe someone who has a murder scent (but only murder, not theft or even assault) on a victim should not pay any lp for the murder (except for the base skill cost of course), and this murder should not count as the one that increase lp cost, in that case ranging would be pretty much the same as it is now. Then again this are going to work only if one would not leave murder scent when he kills somebody on one's claim, or one's village claim.

And btw, all numbers i mentioned in this post are only to explain what i'm talking about. I don't suggest this exact numbers.

Please discuss.

hmm, i know ppl irl will sometimes prepare themselves for killing and stuff, but having to farm an entire field or build looms to go on a murder spree doesn't sound right. now, i admit i haven;t payed a lot of attention to the wyrd, but it might work, depending on how different it is from LP. re-learning how to kill someone just doesn't sond fair, even to trolls and griefers

Well it's not that much about realism, it's about possibly improving of a gameplay. And hey maybe outcome would make game atmosphere more realistic, after all not that much people irl find killing strangers amusing.

So what if someone invades your village and attacks your friend, you knock them out but don't have enough lp to murder them? You have to let them go so they can go back to raiding you?

yes, not being able to kill the SoBs that attack you is retarded. Its all "Yay, hes unconscious! No to finish it! Wait...NO NOT ENOUGH LP!!!" not a very good plan

On the other hand, it's better than some random raider coming in and killing you permanently instead of just stealing your stuff...
Surprise.

Raiders can prepare by stocking up on lp. Their victims are unprepared and now there is an additional barrier to defending themselves.

To be fair there are so many things against defenders right now that one more would hardly make any difference. The fact alone that a raider will come with full tradition and be guaranteed to find just full change characters around is enough.

No but at least the op's heart is in the right direction even if his implementation sucks.
