Carnivore / Herbivore slider

Postby Misty » Mon Mar 01, 2010 12:46 am

Okay, so now that limited resources have been implemented it'd be nice for a new slider to be added, but one that doesn't drastically effect gameplay in a negative way.

Carnivore: 2x meat gain from animals. 2x increased hunger recovery when a meat product is eaten. Decreased chance of successfully harvesting fruit or nuts from trees.

Herbivore: 2x fruit and nut gain from trees. 3x increased hunger recovery when fruit and nuts are eaten. Decreased chance of successfully gaining meat when butchering animals.

Another balanced and well thought out idea. NOT!

I don't really considered vegetarianism an intellectual position requiring enough deliberation to earn the moniker "personal belief", but suggesting never hurts. :)

Just because he's insulting doesn't mean he's retarded. He is in fact, quite correct. You failed to fully think about the consequences of your suggestion. Diet in this game is a fickle thing yet to achieve it's full potential. At the current point in time there is just not enough variety to impose dietary restrictions of any kind.

That said, there may be a place for it in the future, but as far vegan vs. meater, it's just not happening. Not a soul in the world had conceived of the ludicrous concept of not eating meats (let alone not eating vegetables). If you knew jack shit about vegetarianism you would know that the objection is not to the consumption of meat but the methods of cultivating that mea that exist in our industrialized farming world.

So regardless if your suggestion is based in realism or game mechanics....your suggestion is major FAIL.

Just to jump on the hate wagon, herbivore != vegitarian.

Herbivore means a creature who is physically geared to eating only vegetables. Effectively unable to digest or process meat (maybe a herbivore would get sick if you fed it meat, I dunno)

It's not a personal belief.

Same deal with Carnivore.

Vegetarianism is a personal belief, but it doesn't seem appropriate to that era theme wise.

Game play wise, I don't think encouraging people to deny themselves access to a large part of the food resource tree is going to have a positive effect. I certainly wouldn't find it fun, and I think it would probably harm trade, and possibly encourage pushing a sub-set of stats rather than eating a variety (no psy for you carnivores then)

That's how Mad Cow Disease happened. Someone thought it would be a good idea to grind up cow meat and bones and feed it back to cows. It wasn't such a good idea.

About as much an intellectual position as "night".

That being said, vegetarianism doesn't really fit in to the theme of the game. You eat what you find in order to survive. People of long ago didn't have the luxury of choosing, and if they did we'd surely have been extinct by now.
