"butcher all" function?

Postby Zirikana » Thu Mar 04, 2010 8:51 am

Not sure if this exists yet and I simply haven't found out about it... but I was wondering how easy/feasible it would be to implement a "butcher-all" sort of function. I had a full inventory of fish i wanted to cook up, but clicking 48 times to butcher all of them was kinda... not fun. (to put it mildly). It would be great if you could control-click or shift-click, or maybe stick "butchering" into the craft menu the same way the "roast meat" function is, so that this tedium could be avoided. I'm not suggesting it should be instantaneous however. Maybe let it take a good minute or so to butcher an entire inventory's worth of fish.

Just a passing thought.

On a separate note, what's up with leather being so dang quick to tan in the tubs now? Not really complaining, but it seems like it might make leather a much cheaper commodity...

butcher all would be kind of nice, but, pro-tip, you can right click it and press the 1 key to speed things up a bit.

Again, drag-selecting multiple items and performing the same function on all of them at once would be much more versatile.

It might be appropriate to add some small time cost to some of the tasks that are currently instant (eating, butchering) if that was the case, if on par with branch grabbing then you'd general only be waiting noticeable periods when doing them en-mass.

not sure why butcher is there for fish at all given that they only yield one product and you can't use them at all without butchering

good point... I guess just aesthetically, you don't catch pre-filleted fish straight from the river... but still...

maybe there was going to be a food rotting speed mechanism that just never got implemented? So butchered fish would rot slower, and cooked fish slower still?

Maybe the "butcher" function was going to be a separate skill for fish and animals alike?

anyways, yeah... the point remains that all that clicking is not good times.

What if you could use the fish guts for something? maybe like fishing bait or chicken feed or baiting a hunting trap? The fact that you'd accumulate a whole bunch of fish guts would have to be dealt with somehow, but it might be worth thinking about. I'd rather see fish butchering go out the window entirely, but this would at least give it a purpose.
